Dear NightFall Astrology readers,
With the upcoming much-dreaded conjunction of Venus, Mars and Pluto in Capricorn this week, the question is: “will war or peace be chosen” as negotiations between Russia and Ukraine have started on Monday, February 28th. The answer depends on how able are all of us to connect with our merciful, compassionate and empathetic side of our nature, and remember that we’re all connected… connected to God.
When the God of war (Mars) is in an exalted position in Capricorn meets the God of Hell (Pluto) and nuclear power strengthening the former, and the Goddess of harmony and diplomacy (Venus) is in its Pallas Athena (Goddess of war and justice) archetype and isn’t in its strongest position in Capricorn, one does think that the nuclear threat has big chances to be materialised. Maybe or maybe not. Astrologers aren’t fortune tellers, but we can see some patterns and do our best to look at a more moderate than an extreme picture. It’s very easy to fearmonger; that’s how many people have fallen prey to charlatans.
The Pisces New Moon happening one day before the conjunction (March 2nd) for those of us living in Europe brings hope. Let us focus collectively on that.
Here’s your weekly horoscope.
The Venus and Mars trine and sextile to the nodal axis:
From February 28th until March 3rd (exact on February 28th), Venus and Mars (and to some extent Pluto) in Capricorn will be trining the North Node in Taurus and sextiling the South Node in Scorpio, both of which are harmonious astrological aspects. If you’ve been following the news, that’s when the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine about the current conflict started. All of these three planets are the dispositors of the moon’s nodes, meaning that the energy will be more karmic than usual.
Let us unpack briefly what each planet aspecting the nodes means:
- Venus with the Nodes: charisma, attraction, diplomacy and financial opportunities are heightened. It makes us very capable of merging with others in a very beneficial way.
- Mars with the Nodes: this is one of the most intense aspects. We can become very heroic right now (we’ve been seeing the bravery of the Ukrainians throughout the Russian invasion); this is a time when we will have to fight for our lives, our belief systems, and justice. This is a time when we’re wrestling with our own ability to take on the world. This is a time when a lot of anger can be our fuel; this is the kind of energy that one can be willing to lose everything to win at something that holds great meaning and value, and purpose for us. We can wrestle with making intense sacrifices. The dilemma of having a choice can be felt very strongly, and constantly having to make a choice can be very frustrating. It may take on the feeling of fighting to the death of oneself for a higher cause.
- Pluto with the Nodes: this is the most critical aspect of the three. This can be really dark; this is about death and rebirth; this is such intense power. There’s something in our lives that will leave us (I don’t need to mention the number of casualties and refugees due to the Russian/Ukrainian conflict), but this can also be on a personal level. It will probably be a gut punch because it will want to cataclysmically change us forever (and indeed, the world won’t be the same after this tragedy). This change will affect us for at least the next 18.5 years. This is also the death of our past, as in never doing it the same way ever again and learning our karmic lessons. This is a piece of us that wants to step out of the past horrors of our lives and heal all of that. But, because the South Node is in Scorpio (ruled by Mars and Pluto), there’s a gravitational pull to stay stuck in pain, in the trauma, to be re-traumatised. It’s essential to be willing to climb out of the pit. Avoid making bad decisions right now. You may even experience death, divorce, and loss. It’s about learning how to lose with grace and not become obsessive-compulsive about things that have hurt us in the past. This is an opportunity to shed our skin and find enlightenment.
As you can see, it’s a mixed bag, and with Mars and Pluto being the strongest, we really need to step into our higher selves and go forward with love, peace, courage, and harmony in whatever personal or financial challenging situation we’re currently dealing with in our lives.
These aspects will be most significant for Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius.
2. The Mercury/Saturn conjunction in Aquarius:
Also, from February 28th until March 2nd (exact on March 1st), Mercury will conjoin and blend its energy with Saturn in Aquarius. This transit gives practical, structured, and disciplined thinking alongside greater attention to detail. This is excellent energy for pitching original ideas and convincing a boss or an authority figure. Business travel is boosted too with this conjunction.
This conjunction will be most supportive of Aquarius, Libra, Gemini, Sagittarius, and Aries. They’ll have the opportunity to succeed in exams and evaluate and judge situations with the utmost precision and concentration.
Leo, Scorpio and Taurus should be careful with heightened grumpiness and darker mood swings alongside signing unprofitable/unbalanced contracts.
3. The Venus/Mars/Pluto conjunction in Capricorn and the New Moon in Pisces:
- The Venus/Mars/Pluto conjunction in 28° degrees of Capricorn:
As we mentioned earlier, this is a perilous and explosive aspect. In astrology, conjunctions are the strongest aspects and indicate the blending of the planets’ energies in question. This transit was already activated last week (we saw its consequences with the Russian invasion of Ukraine) and becomes exact this week on March 3rd. It’s taking place in one of the critical degrees of Capricorn (28°), which, as its name indicates, can be a synonym of a crisis around all Capricorn-ruled matters (governments, big corporations, the economy, career, and public/social status). It also coincides with the US Pluto return (check my feature article from last week if you’d like to learn more about that).
Again, it’s Mars and Pluto (the Gods of War and Hell) that are the strongest making the nuclear danger seem more and more imminent. Still, we shouldn’t forget that Venus, the planet of diplomacy and harmony as Morning Star and the Goddess of Justice (Pallas Athena), is still part of this triple conjunction and can calm things down and make an effort to find diplomatic solutions. In all cases, with Mars being the strongest planet in this conjunction, this indicates a new cycle of political decision-making, new military and security policies, the escalation of aggressiveness between governments, the danger of uncontrollable wrath and conflict. Moreover, there’s a lot of behind-the-scenes military and political plotting with Pluto being involved.
Usually, when a nuclear mobilisation is announced, it doesn’t mean it is staging for use. Because in strategic posture, if there is a decision to use such weapons, there would be no warning. They will be fired. No rational power will use them unilaterally because there will be no surviving system.
Capricorn, Aries, Cancer and Libra will continue to find themselves in stressful situations and should do their best to keep their emotions under control. If they don’t remain careful, they could end up losing long-standing relationships and making new enemies.
- The New Moon in 13° degrees of Pisces:
This New Moon is much needed at such dreadful times. A New Moon always marks some kind of new beginning, and this one will be linked to empathy, compassion, charity, imagination and dreams, art, higher spirituality and divine love. It’ll be happening on March 2nd at 6:35 PM (CET). What’s very peculiar about it is that it’s going to be in a conjunction with both of its ruling planets (Jupiter and Neptune) in their own sign of Pisces, expanding the benefic energy of universal love.
This New Moon also marks a stellium (3 or more planets in a sign) in the all-encompassing sign of Pisces, containing all the other 11 signs. This is where we all merge together in selflessness and boundlessness. This stellium will still be in a minor Grand Trine (harmonious configuration), even though separating, to the Nodes and the abovementioned Capricorn triple conjunction. The Sun will also be sextiling Uranus in Taurus (exact on March 1st), reinforcing the will and desire to break free from routine, see things from a fresh angle, and gain more freedom of self-expression. Our collective consciousness can get flashes of intuitive insight. This is a favourable time for making easy changes, taking small risks, and anything to do with media and the internet.
So which stellium is going to win? The Pisces or Capricorn one? With the Pisces stellium being denser, I guess we can hope for a miraculous solution. This, of course, doesn’t only depend on the stars; it also depends on our free will. But, we should all join in prayer, help as much as we can through NGOs and charitable organisations, be empathetic to one another, and keep the faith. God is above the stars.
Numerologically, 13° reduces to a 4, which is linked to the planet Uranus, so I guess unexpected turnovers are reinforced.
This New Moon will be most powerfully felt by Pisces, Virgo, Gemini, and Sagittarius. More specifically, those of you who have your Sun, Moon, Ascendant, Descendant, Midheaven, IC or any other important planet or point in your chart around 13° of these signs (give or take 2-3 degrees, the maximum orb being 5 degrees).
4. The Venus/Mars second conjunction in Aquarius on March 6th:
Old distinctions between “platonic pal,” “friend with benefits”, and lover could dissolve with Sunday’s recherche connection between the cosmic lovebirds, Venus and Mars. After extensive tours through serious, traditional Capricorn—including Venus’ retrograde from December 19th to January 29th—they lighten things up by moving on to Aquarius. Venus will be here until April 5th and Mars until April 14th, but Sunday, they’ll toast each other with an exact connection. While this is their second of two exact conjunctions in 2022, it’s been years since they shared a moment like this in the Water Bearer’s realm. As romance meets passion in an unforgettable swirl, give in to the desires that swell up inside you. If you have a partner, then all you need is some alone time—and a willingness to experiment! Singles might strike a spark with a new friend, Tinder date or a random fix-up. Cast a spell with your intellect and wit, and stay open to serendipity!
Remember that 0 degrees is still a critical degree, so the fresh start you’ve been waiting for might come out of a crisis, and you’ll have to work on it to sustain it, as it will still be in its infancy.
On a mundane level, 0° of Aquarius is where the Jupiter/Saturn conjunction happened in December 2021, expanding worldwide digital control through QR codes, new political alliances, health and vaccine passes, and the attempts to regulate cryptocurrencies (we do have now projects for governmental cryptocurrencies). If things don’t escalate to a nuclear attack, drone/aircraft and further cyberattacks and no-fly zones are still on the table.
Plus, they will square Uranus in Taurus later in the month, suggesting unforeseen and shocking developments (such as riots and protests from the citizens themselves).
Venus and Mars’ journey through Aquarius will be most significant for Aquarius, Taurus, Leo, and Scorpio.
