Dear NightFall Astrology readers,
I think it’s safe to say that the past eight months (ever since Uranus turned direct and the Nodes switched signs to Taurus and Scorpio on January 18th) have been hectic for all of us. The shocking and turbulent events worldwide and in our personal lives have exhausted us; this energy has been at its peak since the end of July! I know; it’s a miracle we’re still here and kicking! Well, I’m not surprised at all about that; we’re one strong bunch! But even the strongest and most resilient people need a break once in a while, right?
This week brings the perfect opportunity to intentionally reset ourselves, go inwards, and focus on our health and wellbeing. The burnout stops now! The next few weeks and months aren’t turbulence-free even though they’ll be less shaky thanks to Uranus turning retrograde, so better stabilise and revitalise ourselves now so we can kickstart harvest and back-to-school season the right way.
Here’s your weekly horoscope.
1. Mercury trine Pluto:
From August 21st until August 24th (exact on August 22nd), Mercury in Virgo will trine (harmonious aspect) Pluto retrograde in Capricorn. This is excellent energy for deeper insights, communication, research, investigation, depth therapy, and uncovering secrets. It’s also very favourable for bringing back past investments or travel arrangements that haven’t worked out for one reason or another and closing the deal this time around.
This transit will be most beneficial for Capricorn, Taurus, Virgo, Scorpio, and Pisces.
2. The Sun enters Virgo:
After a month of neon-bright hedonism and unapologetic excess, the razzle-dazzle simmers down this Tuesday, August 23rd, at exactly 5:16 AM (CET). Minimalism reigns supreme as the Sun downshifts into earthy Virgo for a month. Start a Pinterest board of clever storage solutions and efficiency hacks. And don’t forget that many of the best things in life are still free, like rides to the beach, yoga in the park—anything involving fresh air. Virgo is the sign of healthy habits, but also devotional ones! Turn your routines into rituals. How can you make your daily tasks just a little more pleasurable? For example, set up a gorgeous (and plant-filled) environment in your workspace, so you get an aesthetic rush when you look up from your computer screen. Wear clothes that are comfortable but also make you feel attractive—yes, even when dashing off to the gym or to pick up the kids from practice. Take a few extra minutes in the evening to prepare a nourishing lunch for yourself that you can bring to work the next day—you might just make a couple of extra portions of your nightly dinners for this purpose. And when the moment of choice arises, either to be helpful or pretend you didn’t see someone struggling, stop and give them a hand for two seconds.
The caring vibes will come back to you in the form of genuine support and connection with the people you see daily.
Virgo season will be most impactful on Virgo, Gemini, Sagittarius, and Pisces.
3. Uranus stations retrograde:
On Wednesday, August 24th at 3:54 PM (CET), game-changing Uranus does an about-face, backing up through Taurus for its annual retrograde. Between now and January 22nd, 2023, progress may stall, and money could get funny. You might need to pick up a side hustle or start an indie venture to keep the books balanced. On a broader level, assess this: How well are we cooperating as humans? When the side-spinning planet shifts into reverse, it can slow (or outright halt!) progress. Since Uranus began its uncomfortable eight-year trek through Taurus in May 2018, there’s been a war between rapidly moving scientific developments and stubborn “old school” values. Futuristic Uranus loves to push the envelope. Traditional earth sign Taurus wants things to stay the way they’ve always been. Can you see the contradiction here? Navigating the balance between old and new could force some deeper inspection for the rest of 2022.
Uranus retrograde will affect Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius the most.
4. Mercury enters Libra:
On Friday, August 26th, at precisely 3:03 AM (CET), Mercury begins its first of two passes through fair-minded Libra, highlighting any imbalances in our social interactions. Start levelling the playing field now, before the messenger planet spins retrograde on September 9th. Aim for mutuality and a solution that takes all parties’ needs into consideration. Even if it takes a little longer to hammer out the details, the long-term payoff will be worth it. Pro tip: Get contracts signed before the September 9th backspin—or wait until Mercury corrects course on October 2nd (in Virgo). Hashing out creative compromises could spur some fascinating discussions for the next few weeks. Romantic ones, too, so let yourself be transported into a heady space whenever possible. Remember that communication is as much about listening as finding the perfect words to express your point of view. Pay extra attention to aesthetics. Visual cues are Mercury in Libra’s love language!
Mercury’s transit through Libra will affect Libra, Cancer, Capricorn, and Aries the most.
5. The Fixed Grand Cross among Venus, Saturn, Uranus, the North and South Nodes:
From August 25th until August 30th (exact on August 26th through the 28th), Venus in Leo (conjunct the Moon on the 26th) will be forming an extremely tense configuration called a Fixed Grand Cross (made of 2 T-squares) with Saturn retrograde in Aquarius, Uranus retrograde and the North Node in Taurus, and the South Node in Scorpio. This challenging configuration will have a similar taste to the last Fixed Grand Cross we had during the Aquarius Full Moon 2 weeks ago. Only this time, relationships will be particularly highlighted (rather than goals and ambitions (Mars)), and the energy will be a bit less violent and explosive (Mars has left Taurus and is currently transiting Gemini, and Uranus is retrograde) outwardly. Inwardly and personally, many of us may feel like a volcano that’s about to erupt. The following lyric from Lacuna Coil’s hit “Heaven’s a lie” perfectly describes this transit: “Set me free, your heaven’s a lie, set me free with your love”!
Again, the focal point of this Fixed Grand Cross is the Uranus/North Node conjunction, indicating a need for a long-due liberation in our relationships after a change or realisation about our true values (Taurus). The conjunction with the Moon infuses the configuration with high emotionality. It’s more of a sudden reevaluation rather than a new A-HA moment. Thankfully, the opposition between Venus and Saturn retrograde in Aquarius (that becomes exact on August 28th) will help us get a more grounded perspective in this reassessment process; it can also inspire us to finally implement the proper boundaries in our interpersonal relationships.
This can translate into getting help from a superior at work or an older person, improving our financial plans, but also sudden financial losses or unexpected additional responsibilities at the workplace.
As mentioned in the Aquarius Full Moon horoscope, the release of this tension will be channelled through the South Node in Scorpio, meaning that to navigate these challenges, we’ll have to join forces or even share our resources with another person or rather with the “right” person as a consequence of the reevaluation that this Fixed Grand Cross is bringing. With all the planets being in fixed signs and the Nodes being involved in this configuration, you can be sure that whatever changes you decide to make will have long-lasting effects.
This Fixed Grand Cross will be most challenging for Leo, Taurus, Aquarius, and Scorpio.
6. New Moon in Virgo:
Cleanliness is next to godliness as Virgo season is officially kickstarted this week, too (New Moons always mark the official beginning of the Sun’s transits through the zodiac) with the New Moon that’ll be happening on August 27th at 10:17 AM (CET) at 4°04’ of Virgo.
This New Moon is set in the first decan of Virgo ruled by the Sun and represented by the “8 of pentacles” card in Tarot (also called “the Lord of Prudence”), indicating that despite the general humbleness in which Virgo energy is steeped, we’ll be very much focused and proud by whatever new beginnings we’re taking on in our work, health, and wellness (physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually). The 8 of pentacles is a place of well-lit industry and Zen-like focus. Though each of the artisan’s pentacles may appear identical, you can be certain he is honing his craft incrementally with each one. Every detail is another opportunity to hunt down the ideal; He is lost in the trance of perfection, seeing only work before him. But in that work resides the world entire!
You guessed it: there’s a workaholic/perfectionist vibe to this New Moon that will be even more enhanced by the square (challenging aspect) it’ll be making to Mars in Gemini. Those distracting piles and unchecked messages take up a lot of mental energy—even if you THINK you’re ignoring them! And with stressful Mars in Gemini elbowing the New Moon, you could have a meltdown trying to dig for that lost item. Rather than letting it get to that point, open up your Notes app and make a list! Over the next two weeks, start ticking off tasks one at a time. Since wellness is also in Virgo’s wheelhouse, let this lunar lift reboot your fitness goals. Temperatures will soon be perfect for more outdoor activities, where earthy Virgo reigns! Could your meals be healthier and your sleep more sanctified? Feather your nest with everything you need to keep your body humming like a well-oiled machine—from a fridge full of fresh produce and snacks like raw almonds in the pantry to an essential oil diffuser on your nightstand.
The New Moon’s dispositing planet, Mercury in Libra, will help bring some harmony into our minds and enable us to cut ties with whatever has been burning us out and overloading us. It’ll also be trining (harmonious aspect) Mars in Gemini, giving us the stamina to cut the excess away. This is an excellent time to take care of ourselves first before starting to think about taking care of others, for we’re of no good to our loved ones when we’re drained physically and psychologically.
Finally, 4 degrees is the Cancer degree, highlighting the need for self-care, healing, and nurturing even more. So cosy up, hit that spa, spiritual retreat, yoga class, or even create this kind of relaxing/meditative atmosphere in the comfort of your home, and reconnect with your centre! And remember, whatever new work, health and wellness routines you’re starting on this New Moon, you’ll reap their rewards on the next Full Moon in Virgo on March 7th, 2023!
This New Moon will be felt most intensely by Virgo, Pisces, Gemini, and Sagittarius. Especially those of you who have your Sun, Moon, Ascendant, Descendant, Midheaven, IC or any other important planet or point in your chart around 4° of these signs (give or take 2-3 degrees).
