Dear NightFall Astrology readers,
I prefer 2023 to 2020, 2021, and 2022 simply because it is different in a less severe way, and there are less difficult aspects between the slower-moving planets.
In this article, I’m going to briefly go through the significant transits of 2023 (there are quite a few of them). I’ll cover the slower-moving planets (Jupiter, Saturn & Pluto) & the lunar nodes (eclipse points) changing signs. You’ll get the nitty-gritty of it all in my weekly forecasts, so follow me on Facebook & Instagram, and subscribe to my newsletter, so you never miss an update!

I always advise my clients to avoid starting important projects during retrograde periods. Still, alas, 2023 revoked my advice and commences with both Mercury and Mars retrograde and seditiously ends with yet another Mercury retrograde. Not wanting to be left out, Venus also retrogrades in roaring Leo in the middle of the year. This does not mean that 2023 is going to be a “lost year,” shrouded by a cloud of retrogrades. In fact, it might be a blessing in disguise. Perhaps our celestial guides are helping us mitigate the monumental planetary transitions of the coming year by offering us retrograding periods to regroup and implement new approaches. Sometimes, getting lost can help you find your true destination.
As Above so Below, and in 2023 we have a lot of changes taking place in the heavenly realm that would reflect in transitions and shifts here on earth. Pluto, the Lord of Transformation, is transiting into Aquarius after being in Capricorn since 2008 when he instigated the Great Recession. Since Pluto rules investments and financial institutions, he threatens once again to herald major financial and economic challenges in 2023–2024. Saturn, the Lord of Karma, who invented the idea of hereditary curses (devouring his own children can do that), is letting go of Aquarius and taking a once-in-a-30-year plunge into the oceans of Pisces (mega-floods & droughts). Another planet, Jupiter, the Great Benefactor, also changes his garment from the ruby red Aries military uniform into the Taurus haute couture fabulous suit in 2023. The Head of the Dragon, which points at what we must collectively master, retrogrades from Taurus to Aries, just in the opposite direction of Jupiter’s transit.
All these changing archetypes tell us that 2023 is a preview (and a bridge) of a large-scale transformation we’re entering over the next 20 years (Pluto in Aquarius 2024 – 2044). People, borders, values, and ideas are moving around and changing the geopolitical systems. These immense changes already started in 2020 and 2021 with the Saturn/Pluto conjunction in Capricorn (38-40 year lasting transit) that signalled the COVID-19 pandemic, the Saturn/Jupiter conjunction in Aquarius (more structure and focus on intellect, science, space, horizontal hierarchy, and frugality (aka less waste)), and the push-pull square between Saturn in Aquarius and Uranus in Taurus (the battle between the old and the new, restriction and freedom) that marked all of 2021 and most of 2022 (travel restrictions, lockdowns, masks, vaccine mandates, economic crisis and recession). Thankfully, starting from January 2023, the Saturn/Uranus square is officially dissipating.
So, let’s dive into 2023’s major transits, shall we?
1. Saturn enters Pisces:
Saturn, the planet of structure, challenge and commitment, enters Pisces on March 7 and will remain there until February 15, 2026. This possibly shows more debate, a more conservative mindset, and more challenges regarding religion or thoughts about beliefs and spirituality in the world.
Also, Pisces can be a sign of general feelings and connection. So, I’d say that I could see this is showing a movement of “shut up, deal with it, work hard” in terms of where the world is heading. There could be a particularly conservative religious revival. Finally, Pisces rules refugees and immigration, so harsher immigration policies and legislation are on the table too.
2. Pluto enters Aquarius:
Pluto briefly enters Aquarius (March 23 – June 11, 2023) before it goes retrograde at zero degrees, meaning that it will re-enter Capricorn. So, it is a preview of the 20-year Transit of Pluto and Aquarius. The fact that Pluto briefly enters Aquarius before retrograding back shows that this spring into early summer is a preview of what the technological, social, and innovation-based transformation will be taking place in the world.
Pluto is a planet of transformation of death and rebirth and a large-scale crisis in humanity. With it entering Aquarius (the sign of collective architecture, intellectual developments, technological priorities, and more large social movements) briefly over the next few months, this is a preview of the larger transformations in a social and technological sense that will be impacting the world over the next 20 years.
Think about the events that are occurring in March, April and May, and consider them as a sneak- peek of these more significant developments. Look for the events during these 3 months that are transformative, crisis-oriented catalysts around technology and social movements.
On June 11, Pluto retrogrades back into Capricorn until the end of 2023, and won’t officially enter Aquarius until January 22, 2024.
From July 23 to the 25th, Pluto will be at the 90-degree bending of the nodes, meaning that the North and South node are in Aries and Libra, and Pluto will be in Capricorn at the 90-degree angle at the very end of Capricorn (the 29th anaretic/critical degree). This shows important planetary energy that will help balance out or integrate the extremes of the North and the South Nodes because the North Node can be too much, and the South node can care too little. Pluto shows transformation or authenticity and more large-scale psychological humbling. This being an essential part of the story of the North Node, suggests an acceleration around free speech and anti-censorship during this time. The South Node signals less regard for aesthetics or harmony between people.
October is when the breakthrough cycle really begins to pick up again. On the 10th, Pluto stations direct in Capricorn. These are the final few months of Pluto in Capricorn: an over-a-decade transit of transformation of power structures, hierarchies, banks, governments, and institutions. A lot of them have been at their downfall since 2008. Pluto can be a planet of the Tower card in Tarot, which depicts a Tower being hit by a lightning bolt and crumbling down. So, watch for the final dominoes to fall around institutions, major power structures, financial markets, and corporations during the last two months of 2023.
3. A Taurus pile-up in spring 2023:
The third significant transit of 2023 is a Taurus pile-up this spring. This shows huge disruption in financial and natural resources, natural disasters, and new beginnings. It’s not necessarily all negative, but it is definitely highly disruptive and directly relates to finances and literal earth: it’s in Taurus (fixed earth), which signals natural resources being disrupted to an enormous level.
In 2023, Jupiter starts in Aries, and the Ram people will experience a great deal of good fortune (Jupiter’s Tarot card is called “The Wheel of Fortune”). From May 17, Jupiter trades his racecar for a luxury vehicle as he transits into Taurus and stays there until May 26, 2024, when he enters his sign of exile, Gemini. During these months, to tap into Jupiter’s abundant energy, you have to be more like an Aries–initiate, adhere to calls for adventure, be a fighter, a warrior, don’t take “no” for an answer, begin new projects, assert yourself, wear red, and liberate yourself and others. In other words, be a Moses, a Christ, a Muhammad.
From March 30 to the 31st, Venus will conjoin Uranus in Taurus. This conjunction is shocking or very electric, sudden, and disruptive value-based events. These events likely relate to finances but could also be some cosmetic or beauty-related weird issue in the world during that time.
On May 16, Jupiter enters Taurus until May 26, 2024. Jupiter is a planet of growth and of expansion. Entering Taurus shows a positive development regarding finances, natural resources, foundations, and support structures. This is different from the North Node, which has been in Taurus for a year and a half, which shows growth, but it’s more destructive and more catalytic, versus Jupiter, which tends to show positive growth and developments on a more slow and steady level.
During Jupiter’s transit in earthbound Taurus, we must assume the archetype of Taurus to benefit from the gifts he wishes to bestow on us. We must try to find new ways of making money, reconnect to our talents, build up our confidence, increase our self-worth so we can translate our talents and gifts into abundance, be patient, connect to the five senses, and, yes, learn to enjoy life!
There is a chance that during Jupiter’s conjunction with the North Node in Taurus (May 22 – June 2), you can get a glimpse of how you can tap into your true financial potential and connect to a company or a group of like-minded people that can help you financially, share your values and elevate your self-esteem. As long as you are authentic and believe in your talent, Jupiter in Taurus can help you financially.
4. The Nodes switching signs (North Node in Aries & South Node in Libra):
The Lunar Nodes are mathematical points in the sky that mark where the elliptical orbit of the Sun and Moon meet, symbolising their interaction, exchanging information, spinning and weaving the threads of destiny.
Eclipses are lunations that occur 4–5 times a year, depending on how tight their orbit is, and they are known for generating synchronicities and bringing processes to a conclusion.
The eclipses’ signs are determined by the location of the Lunar Nodes, also known as the Head and Tail of the Dragon. The North Node I call the Dragon. It makes it more exciting.
Astrologically speaking, whatever sign the North Node travels through represents the archetype we are collectively asked to master or increase. The South Node will always fall on the opposite sign and marks the archetype we are supposed to focus less on or decrease.
From July 13, 2023, until January 29, 2025, the Lunar Nodes change sign into Aries (North Node) and Libra (South Node). However, since the eclipses in the second part of 2023 are not total, the actual signs of the last eclipse (October 28) would continue to be Taurus and Scorpio. I know, a bit confusing, but let me make it easy for you. The collective lessons of the second part of 2023 and all of 2024 are related to Aries:
- Find and fortify your identity.
- Become a better leader.
- Help liberate people.
- Become a saviour (to yourself and others).
- Find autonomy and independence.
- Discover your courage and bravery to go where you have not gone before boldly.
- Since the South Node is in Libra, we are asked to forego dependency and codependency in all our relationships and partnerships, avoid superficiality and hypocrisy, fix the justice system, let go of preoccupation with beauty, and let go of judgmental attitudes.
To conclude, this year’s astrology is a preview for a large-scale transformation that we’re entering over the next few years. Get your morals straight, and do you! If you enjoyed this article, do let me know in the comments down below your thoughts, predictions or feelings about 2023.
I’m looking forward to it simply because of the many changes; I’m not looking forward to it because it’s this amazing, but I do prefer it to the astrology of 2022.
