Dear NightFall Astrology readers,
In Numerology, 2023 is reduced into 7 (2+0+2+3=7). The number 7 is considered auspicious by many traditions, including Kabbalah and symbolises spirituality and the connection to the divine. 7 is also linked to the planet Neptune (the higher octave of Venus), Pisces’ co-ruler alongside Jupiter in Modern Astrology, which is also related to higher spirituality, Divine love, the collective unconscious, art, illusion/delusion, secrets, and karmic debt.
In the Kabbalistic Tree of Life, the blueprint of creation, there are ten spheres or vessels that hold space for the light of the One. The seventh sphere is called Eternity and represents creation’s repetitive, cyclical nature. Seven is everywhere, and perhaps the number’s purpose is to ensure we have an active hotline to the divine. The sphere’s colour is green and symbolises Mother Nature. Venus, the planet of the 7th sign, and Libra, the sign of balance, peace, relationships, and beauty, also rule it. Through its relation to 7, 2023 can help us attract and harmonise relationships, supported by the numbers 2 (High Priestess) and 3 (Empress) found in the digits of 2023. Think of the seven Chakras, the seven days of the week, the seven circumnavigations around the black rock in Mecca… And, alas, the seven trumpets of the apocalypse.
Seven is ubiquitous. Repeated and repeated and repeated to infinity:
- Seven days that Buddha sat for enlightenment.
- Seven sacraments of Christianity.
- Seven dwarfs and seven samurai.
- James Bond 007, the most repeated character in movie history.
- Seven deadly sins and the irresistible allure of the mechanical altars to Lucky Seven in Las Vegas.
In her famous worldwide book about Numerology entitled “Your Days Are Numbered”, Florence Campbell provides a deeper insight into the meaning of a 7 universal year:
“A good financial year except when the previous one has spelt War (what a surprise if we look back to 2022!). The farmer should come into his own, for 7 loves the country and agricultural pursuits. The vibration says Perfection, so the tendency will be to give a finished quality to everything undertaken. It is fertile soil for the growth of theories, but it takes a lot of quiet thinking (or meditation) to keep them healthy. Existing affairs should be analysed. No branching out into new ventures. { 7 is an Inner Force and lends itself to acquaintanceship with hidden and interior conditions }”. Well, no surprise there! Numerologically, this is a year for us to turn more inwardly as Pisces (co-ruled by Neptune) is a mutable (signifying adaptability and transition) water (emotion and introversion) sign.
1. The Tarot Cards of 2023:
Since we’re talking about a Universal vibration and thus massive events (often outside of our control), we’ll be looking only at Major Arcana cards.
The 7th Major Arcana Card in Tarot is “The Chariot”, also known as “The Lord of Triumph of Light”.
Swiss occultist, Oswald Wirth (5 August 1860 – 9 March 1943), gives a very precise and succinct description of this card (I’ll be using his interpretations for all 4 tarot cards of 2023):
“Netzah, triumph, steadfastness – active spirituality, conscious progress, intelligent evolution, the constructive principle of the Universe, Great Architect.
Control, absolute domination over oneself, direction, government, the full power of intelligence and tact, discernment in reconciliation, peace-bringing and civilising harmony.
Talent, success thanks to personal merit, legitimate outcome, loyal diplomacy, the ability to benefit from adverse action,
ambition, advance, the post of director or head.
In a negative sense: incapacity, lack of the talent of tact, diplomacy or spirit of reconciliation; misconduct, bad government.”
Let’s break down the 7th Major Arcana Card (The Chariot).
A quick look at the three digits that form the year’s number, 2023, uncovers three Major Arcana cards: The High Priestess, who appears twice and is represented by the number 2; the Fool, whose number, appropriately, is 0; and the Empress, whose number is 3. These represent the sub-themes of the 7-year.
a) The High Priestess – The Priestess of the Silver Star (number 2):
“C’hocmah, wisdom, creative thought, the word, the second person in the Trinity, Isis, nature, the wife of God and mother of all things. The substance which fills unlimited space; the field of action of the active and intelligent cause; the fruitful opposing forces from which all is born. The differentiation which allows us to perceive, hence to know
and to be able.
The Sacred Science whose object is beyond the power of our senses. Divination, intuitive philosophy, knowledge (gnosis), discerning mystery, contemplative faith.
Silence, discretion, reserve, meditation, modesty, patience, resignation, piety, respect for holy things. Deceit, hidden intentions, spite, inertia, laziness, bigotry, intolerance, fanaticism. Passive influence of Saturn”.
b) The Fool – The Spirit of Ether (number 0):
“Parabrahm, Apsou. The bottomless Abyss. The Absolute. Infinite. Ensoph. Whatever is beyond out understanding. The irrational,
the absurd. Emptiness, Nothingness. Cosmogonic night. Primordial substance. Disintegration, spiritual annihilation. Nirvana.
Passivity, impetuousness, giving way to blind instincts, to gross desires and passions. Irresponsibility, alienation, madness. Lack of
self-direction; incapable of resisting outside influences. Agency, subject to domination, loss of free will. Slavery.
Non-entity. The toy of occult powers. Unbalanced and easily influenced. A subject for hypnosis. Instrument of other people. Lack of consciousness. Unable to be initiated. Dragged blindly towards one’s downfall. The foolish person prey to his own whims. Insensitivity, indifference. Nonchalance. Incapable of recognising one’s wrongdoings and feeling remorse for them”.
c) The Empress – Daughter of the Mighty Ones (number 3):
“Binah, intelligence, comprehension, the abstract conception which generates ideas and shapes the Supreme Ideal, thought conceived but not yet expressed. The sphere of recognisable and understandable objects. Discernment, reflection, study, observation, inductive science. Instruction, knowledge, erudition
Affability, grace, charm, strength of character, rule through gentleness, civilizing influence. Politeness, generosity. Abundance, wealth, fertility.
Adornment, vanity, frivolity, luxury, prodigality, coquetry, seduction and show of superficial ideas, pose, affection”.
