Dear NightFall Astrology readers,
February will be a less hectic and gentler month in general, but we have some “soap opera” level drama going on this week. I mean, we need some entertainment before things get too chill, right? For the millennials (and older generations) out there, when were you ever bored by “The Bold and the Beautiful” show?
Again, all planets are direct until April 21st, so this is an excellent time for putting our goals into action, especially with the ongoing Sun/Mars trine at the beginning of the week. We’ll have the opportunity to arm ourselves with quick-thinking and innovative solutions, thanks to the Mercury/Uranus trine, before the drama escalates at the end of the week with the Venus/Mars square and Leo Full Moon. I wouldn’t worry too much about it though; it’s Leo, after all! Switch your sense of humour on and get the popcorn ready!
Here’s your weekly horoscope.
1. Mercury trines Uranus:
From January 28th until January 31st (exact on January 30th), Mercury in Capricorn makes a gorgeous trine to Uranus in Taurus! Time to jump on those innovative ideas and solutions! Group activities, catching up with friends, working in a team, social networking/ media, and learning new things are energised. Managing, planning and organising go fast and receive support.
This transit will be most favourable for Taurus, Capricorn, Virgo, Cancer, and Pisces.
3. Venus squares Mars:
From February 2nd until February 6th (exact on February 4th), the square between Venus exalted in Pisces and Mars in Gemini could help you make up your mind about a potential partner if you’re having second thoughts. There’s a chance you’ll find out you’re not as well-suited as you’d hoped, or that something that seemed insignificant at first is now causing major friction. It’s easy to want to ignore the problem when Venus is in forgiving Pisces. The brave planet Mars is in the communicative sign of Gemini, so you should bring it up. Use tactful frankness.
This square will be most challenging for Gemini, Pisces, Virgo, and Sagittarius.
4. The New Moon in Leo:
In a typical Leo fashion, expect drama! It doesn’t look too serious, but it does look very entertaining!
So, this Full Moon is happening in 16 degrees and 41 minutes on February 5th 2023, at 7:28 PM (CET). Full Moons always have the Sun opposite (challenging aspect) the Moon. So, the Sun is an Aquarius while the Moon is in Leo. In Leo, we’ll be dealing with endings, culminations, and illuminations around romance, creativity, royalty, power, status, children, taking risks and gambling, aaaand of course, drama and entertainment! Whatever it is, you’re wrapping up a situation or a project that you’ve started around the last New Moon in Leo that happened on July 28th, 2022!
The Sun is in the second decan of Aquarius (decans are third parts, and they help us add a little bit more texture or details and nuance to what this Full Moon is representing). The second decan of Aquarius is associated with the Six of Swords tarot card also known as the “Lord of Science”, and it is a clever problem-solving card. It shows someone crossing a river; he’s on a little boat, so it’s about getting from one point to another and having the correct problem-solving method to do. This card shows clarity or things finally making sense on the next course of action, and the Sun already represents the mentality or the intellectual side of this Full Moon. So it looks like, intellectually, we are realising how to get from point A to point B and solve a particular problem.
Now, the Moon is therefore in the opposite part of the zodiac in the second decan of Leo, which is associated with the Six of Wands tarot card called the “Lord of Triumph”, and it represents a victory! However, it isn’t the victory of the end of it all; it’s more of the victory of one chapter or achieving a milestone. The downside of this can be that you become complacent. Also, a little bit of power can give you a lot of pride.
So, there are pros and cons to this, but overall seems to be a Full Moon with themes of intellectually realising that we’re solving a problem and emotionally feeling very gratified that we are on the way to that goal, even if we’ve already hit the first milestone!
Unexpected drama alert! This Full Moon is squaring Uranus in Taurus within one degree. Uranus is the planet of disruption, chaos, and volatility, and can be quite sudden! So there’s a lot of electricity in this Full Moon!
Full Moons are already times of peak drama or things being revealed, and a square to Uranus exacerbates this with a very sudden and groundbreaking quality. It might come out of the blue, where we’re solving a problem, we’re needing to get to the bottom of an issue, and suddenly, things come to light and are quite disruptive in our life. On the bright side, it can be very electric or exciting, but more often than not a square which is a hard aspect, doesn’t show too bright of a side to Uranus. This is something that’s a little more of a breakdown kind of energy.
There’s zero chill to this Full Moon: Leo already wants all the attention, and it definitely looks like that is happening! If you have fixed sign placements around 15 to 16 degrees as I do myself in Leo and the other fixed signs (Taurus, Aquarius and Scorpio), it looks like a very engaging night to say the least! Following Frank Clifford’s theory about the middle degrees of a sign (14 to 16 degrees), when a planet is placed in these degrees of a sign, the planet appears to be truly ensconced in that sign’s raison d’être. It’s caught up in the midst of living in that sign and dealing with its key issues; there’s a strong feeling that things won’t change for some time. Sometimes it can feel like a mid-way (mid-life) crisis where there’s a demand to understand the core challenges of a sign, knowing you have to keep ploughing on with no reprieve or change of scenery for a while. In a fixed sign such as Leo, the planet is at its most permanent, solid and durable but sometimes feels stagnant or stuck in the areas linked to that planet and sign. Well, with Uranus in the picture, you can be certain that if you’re feeling stuck, that’ll be over with this Full Moon! Shine on!

Anyways, back to our analysis here. The Sun being in Aquarius (its detriment) is in a Saturn ruled-sign, and it’s about 10 degrees away from Saturn already in Aquarius. Saturn’s a planet of seriousness and maturity, but 10 degrees is not super close so it’s not as if this is an incredibly “Do or Die” Full Moon. It looks more like petty drama and it’s not the end of the world! It’s just an entertaining episode of “The Bold and The Beautiful” (back to my 90s references again)!
Luckily, Venus is exalted in Pisces right now, and Venus being exalted shows that social harmony and getting along with others are present throughout this. However, it is squaring Mars within a degree, which can be very friction-oriented, it can be flirty, but it can also be just kind of on the surface cheeky, which is a little more difficult. So, it’s not rude chaos; it’s more of petty and gossipy chaos. Some ways in which this can play out is trivial fighting with your close friends or family.
Mercury is also conjunct Pluto in Capricorn. Mercury’s communication and Pluto adds seriousness, intensity or crisis. So, people are not mincing words or being very serious, direct and concise with our speech even if the matter is not that serious. So, do expect people to throw some sharp words around and be very cutthroat with their language. For example, in a group chat, the words being thrown around will be screenshot-worthy. All of these alignments give off very precise and divisive energy. This Full Moon squaring Uranus, Venus squaring Mars, and having Mercury conjunct Pluto look like these transits are cutting deep, but they’re not necessarily unhealable in the long run. It doesn’t look like the end of the world Leo is fairly light-hearted; it does look like drama at a party and something that could be quite Story-Time worthy in a few weeks or months down the line.
I would avoid expecting anything near peaceful under this Full Moon. I wouldn’t schedule something like a family dinner or a friendly get-together. However, if you do want to like go out to a party or something and you have no stake in it, and you don’t mind sitting back and watching this unfold, it could be quite entertaining.
I don’t mind saying that I think that it could be fun to watch even if we’re not trying to take part in it ourselves. It could be a good day to work out or do anything creative. It could be quite an intense day if you’re dating anyone or have to be around someone one-on-one; it could be hot but pretty toxic, so just beware! And with “wounded healer” comet Chiron trining this Full Moon, spark peace talks instead of using your roar to start a war.
Aquarius, Leo, Scorpio, and Taurus will feel this Full Moon most intensely. Especially those of you who have your Sun, Moon, Ascendant, Descendant, Midheaven, I.C. or any other important planet or point in your chart around the 16 degrees of these signs (give or take 2-3 degrees).
