Dear NightFall Astrology readers,
Like the first week of March, this second week of the month holds another pile-up of incredibly potent energy on the same day! Mark your calendars: on March 7th, we’re having an intense Virgo Full Moon with Saturn changing signs and entering Pisces after spending 2.5 years in its second sign of rulership: Aquarius! For this type of concentration of cosmic energy, the adjective “karmic” can’t do it enough justice…
The Full Moon itself will be quite aggressive and confusing, as it’s squaring Mars and opposing Neptune, so whatever comes up for you this Tuesday, you might want to make a record of it as we don’t get such heavy alignments every day!
Anyways, no more rambling in the intro; let’s get into this week’s (and beyond), particularly “fated” astrological transits.
I. Full Moon in Virgo:
Although it’s not my top pick of Full Moons, I find this one particularly noteworthy to discuss because of its significance in astrology this year. With the Sun and Neptune in conjunction, Mars in a square with Neptune, and the Full Moon triggering the opposition between Neptune and Mars, coupled with Saturn’s entry into Pisces, this is an astrologically significant time.
So, this New Moon is happening at 16 degrees of Virgo, right in the middle of Virgo, on March 7, 2023, at 1:40 PM (CET). Full Moons are always about culmination, letting go, things coming under the spotlight and endings. With this lunation happening in the mutable earth sign of Virgo, we’re definitely adapting/adjusting out of a situation (that started around the New Moon in Virgo on August 27th, 2022) regarding health, daily work and routine, being of service to others, perfectionism, and mastering things in general.
This Full Moon is happening in the second decan of Virgo, which is associated with the nine of Pentacles tarot card. In astrology, decans refer to the three equal parts into which each zodiac sign is divided, and they serve to add more depth and detail to the specific region of the sky that is being influenced. The tarot card “Nine of Pentacles” represents slow and steady progress, removing blockages and inefficiencies, and perfecting a project by being specific and dedicated. Virgo, ruled by Mercury, is influenced by Venus in this context, adding to the importance of aesthetic or harmonious details. This process may not be the most enjoyable, but it is essential to achieve perfection in what is being built.
Now, this also means that the Sun is in the second decan of Pisces across the sky, which is the Nine of Cups tarot card associated with material happiness. This part of the sky is associated with abundance and wisdom, ruled by Jupiter, which also rules Pisces, making it wealth and success-oriented. It suggests that internal and external aspects of life are reflecting each other, indicating good progress. The Sun in the second decan of Pisces and the Moon in the second decan of Virgo show that things are going well because of gradual and honest work with attention to detail. This slow and steady approach is bringing positive results and alignment between the internal and external states.

Mercury rules the Full Moon in Virgo, but unfortunately, it is in a weakened position as it is in its fall and exile in Pisces. This can cause a disadvantage in resources and poor communication, making it difficult to communicate clearly during this time. It is better to focus on spiritual or creative/artistic activities rather than clear tasks, and it is not recommended to sign contracts or do anything verbally straightforward on this day.
The Sun is also conjunct with Neptune within eight degrees. This isn’t too close to Neptune to be overly dreamy, but its proximity adds a touch of spirituality, delusion, and nightmare. This is ironic since Virgo is typically more practical and grounded. However, the Full Moon is also squaring Mars in Gemini, leading to frustration and sensitivity to irritations. Mars is also squaring Neptune, which causes inaction and frustration because the warrior is stopped by fear and delusion from Neptune, representing spirituality and beauty.
This situation is quite aggravating and involves a lot of unnecessary drama. We seem to be making progress towards a goal, and it’s something we’re proud of. However, the poor positioning of Mercury and the Mars square means that we’re likely to encounter opposition from others who are criticising us. We’re getting bogged down in minor details and engaging in pointless arguments, creating chaos and confusion even though we may be proud of what we’re accomplishing. At this point, we’re not entirely sure what our end goal is due to all the distractions and disturbances.
Jupiter conjunct Chiron and Venus in Aries presents an opportunity for healing and growth, despite the drama and sensitivity present. The conflict may be over minor details, but the Moon in Virgo’s harmonious trine to Uranus suggests a potential solution. Overall, there is a positive outlook and a chance for resolution.
Saturn entering Pisces will test emotional boundaries and belief systems on a global scale. The Full Moon energy is frustrating and impulsive, so avoiding rash decisions or communication is best. However, important events related to the Saturn in Pisces transit may occur during this time. I recommend you look at the Virgo and Pisces houses in your chart to better understand how this energy may affect you personally.
Pisces, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Gemini will feel this Full Moon most intensely. Especially those of you who have your Sun, Moon, Ascendant, Descendant, Midheaven, I.C. or any other important planet or point in your chart around 16 degrees of these signs (give or take 2-5 degrees).
II. Saturn in Pisces:
From March 7th, 2023, until around February 13th, 2026, Saturn will be in Pisces for three years, with some retrogrades that will extend into Aries. This marks a significant change from Saturn’s previous placement in Aquarius. The world will be facing a new set of challenges, boundaries, and conflicts during this period.
Saturn is a planet that signifies limits and boundaries. It represents maturity and is known for bringing hardship, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a bad planet. Saturn’s transit through a sign shows where we collectively face obstacles, restrictions, or limitations in a particular theme. When Saturn was in Aquarius, a fixed air sign dealing with social collectives and technological innovation, we saw lockdowns, social distancing, and regulations enforced around social media and big tech. This is because Saturn’s boundary was in a sign related to social connection.
Saturn and Pisces. I expect more belief-based restrictions, so Pisces is the sign then, and if a planet is an actor, then the sign is the role that it’s playing. Planets are the actual things doing the description. Signs are the archetype that adds texture, so Pisces represents this archetype in the world, which is a mutable water sign. Mutable signs are adaptable and show the transition or flexibility between things, and water signs deal with emotional, heartfelt, and creative matters.
The signs of the zodiac do not represent events or things directly in the world, but when a planet is located in a particular sign, it can suggest certain outcomes or descriptions that we might expect to see. For example, Pisces is a mutable water sign that is considered the most creative and abstract of all the signs. It is also associated with emotional intensity and expression.
Therefore, if there is a sign that is particularly emotional or sensitive, it is likely to be Pisces. When we consider the placement of Saturn in Pisces, we can expect to see restrictions on the transfer of interconnectedness between things, as well as policing around beliefs and faith. This could include questions about what beliefs and practices are acceptable or harmful and debates about bodily autonomy, drug use, and other related issues. Ultimately, it may be necessary to reevaluate our current approach to these issues in order to find a more equitable and effective solution.
Let’s take a look at what type of events took place in the world the last time Saturn was in Pisces, which was from May 21st 1993, until June 30th, 1993, and then from January 28th 1994, until April 7th, 1996. The type of events that occurred will be the baseline for the current Saturn-in-Pisces forecast.
- May 25th, 1993: The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia was created in The Hague.
- June 18th 1993: Iraq disarmament crisis: Iraq refuses to allow UNSCOM weapons inspectors to install remote-controlled monitoring cameras at two missile engine test stands.
- June 25th, 1993: In a terrorist attack, members of the Azanian People’s Liberation Army opened fire on a congregation inside St James Church in Kenilworth, Cape Town, killing eleven and injuring fifty.
- March 12th, 1994: The Church of England ordained its first female priests.
- December 15th, 1994: The initial release of Netscape Navigator, a web browser that will control the majority of the usage share for web browsers for the rest of the 1990s.
- April 27th, 1994: South Africa held its first fully multiracial elections, marking the final end of the last vestiges of apartheid. Nelson Mandela won the elections and was sworn in as the first democratically elected president the following month.
- January 1st, 1995: The World Trade Organization (WTO) is established to replace the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT).
- March 26th, 1995: The Schengen Agreement, easing cross-border travel, went into effect in several European countries.
- July 11th, 1995: Srebrenica massacre: Units of the Army of Republika Srpska, under the command of General Ratko Mladić, enter Srebrenica with little resistance from Dutch peacekeepers of the United Nations Protection Force, going on to kill thousands of Bosniak men and boys and rape many women.
- November 7th, 1995: Typhoon Angela leaves the Philippines and Vietnam devastated, with 882 deaths and US$315 million in damage. The typhoon was the strongest to strike the Philippines in 25 years, with wind speeds of 130 mph (210 km/h) and gusts of 180 mph (290 km/h).
- January 19th, 1996: The North Cape oil spill occurred as an engine fire forced the tugboat Scandia ashore on Moonstone Beach in South Kingstown, Rhode Island. The North Cape Barge was pulled along with it and leaked 820,000 gallons of home heating oil.
So, we do see large-scale religious and racial terrorism took place alongside the prosecution of such crimes internationally (Pisces has no boundaries, and Saturn provides the structure for such horrific crimes to be prosecuted). Structures and boundaries were also put on international trade. Moreover, enacting and applying new legislation can restore justice and human rights (ref. The Church of England ordained its first female ministers, and South Africa held its first multiracial elections). Finally, natural disasters related to liquids and large bodies of water (such as typhoons and oil spills) happened and are also probable during the upcoming Saturn in Pisces transit.
For the sake of brevity, I won’t be covering the Saturn in Pisces cycle between March 1964 and March 1967. I’ll let you research the relevant historical events on your own.
Finally, during the Saturn and Pisces transit, there will most probably be discussions and legal action around gender, sexual orientation, transgenderism, and abortion due to the focus on bodily autonomy. There may also be an increase in religious terrorism and critique of religion. Additionally, celebrities and entertainment will be scrutinised with a push for more transparency and less retouching. Important dates include March 7th, 2023, when Saturn enters Pisces, and March until the middle of May 2024, when there will be a response or rethinking of events. In 2025, there will be legislation around bodily decision-making and entertainment with a focus on amplifying boundaries.
This transit will be most important for Pisces, Virgo, Sagittarius, Gemini, and anyone who has Saturn in Pisces natally and, thus, will be going through his/her Saturn return!
III. Venus sextiles Mars & Mercury sextiles Uranus:
A. Venus sextiles Mars:
From March 9th until March 13th (exact on Match 11th), Venus in Aries will make a harmonious sextile to Mars in Gemini. This is a great time for both men and women as they tend to get along better than usual. You may find yourself more inclined towards pleasure and taking actions that bring you joy. It’s also an ideal period for indulging in activities related to art, beauty, fashion, relationships, friendly sports, and social events. Consider buying something beautiful to enhance your appearance, and use this time to ask someone out on a date or simply have a joyful and fun time with loved ones. You might experience positive emotional experiences and heightened sexual energy, making it a good opportunity to create something special for your partner. Additionally, it’s a wonderful time to purchase new clothes, cosmetics, or jewellery that can bring you pleasure and enhance your appearance.
This transit will be most favourable for Gemini, Aquarius, Libra, Leo, and Aries.
B. Mercury sextile Uranus:
During the same couple of days and also exactly on March 11th, mercury in Pisces will be sextiling Uranus in Taurus. This is an exciting time as you may receive some good news or stumble upon a missing piece of information that you’ve been searching for. You can expect stimulating and energizing conversations that spark new ideas and help you move forward. This is a great period for managing, planning, and organising tasks as things are likely to move quickly and receive support from others. It’s also a fantastic time for group activities, catching up with friends, working in a team, and engaging in social networking, media, and internet activities. You may also find yourself drawn to learning new things and expanding your knowledge base during this time.
This alignment will be most supportive of Taurus, Capricorn, Virgo, Pisces, and Cancer.
