Dear NightFall Astrology readers,
This is another MAJOR week astrologically, so you better read this horoscope until the end, as it isn’t only valid for this week! 3 crucial transits are happening:
(i) On March 21st, a New Moon in Aries (the first sign of the zodiac) officially kicks in the Spring Equinox and the New Astrological Year! This New Moon is in the same sign as Jupiter (the planet of abundance), making the 21st and the days following an excellent period for manifesting or starting something new that you want to grow.
(ii) On March 23rd, Pluto enters Aquarius after transiting Capricorn for the last 15 years (since 2008)! It will remain in Aquarius for 20 years after its final retrograde back into Capricorn this June-January 2024. You won’t feel this unless you have placements at 0 to 5 degrees of Aquarius (and 5 degrees is really a stretch). In all cases, March 23rd until June 11th will be a preview of a period of significant societal changes and transformation towards AI, centralised digital currencies, surveillance and manipulation by governments, but also more equity and visibility for different ideas, projects, and identities.
(iii) And finally, on March 25th, after 7 months of being in Gemini, Mars (the planet of drive, aggression, and war) finally leaves this sign and enters Cancer (its fall sign), meaning that Gemini placements will finally get a break. The world will have fewer endless arguments and debates and be less intellectually combative.
So after this short run-through, let’s get into the details of it all!
I. Spring Equinox and New Moon in Aries:
A. The Spring Equinox:
Every year we celebrate the Astrological New Year on March 21st, the first day of Aries and the onset of Spring in the Northern Hemisphere. Countless monuments worldwide were erected over the ages to commemorate and mark this auspicious day, from the Pyramids of Egypt to Stonehenge in England, Chichen Itza of Mexico, Peru’s Machu Picchu, the Chaco Canyon in the USA, and Newgrange in Ireland.
On the equinox of March 21st, the day and night, masculine and feminine, are in balance. It is such a powerful day that the Sumerians and Babylonians—the Lords of Time, consecrated it as the New Year. For this reason, the sign Aries begins on the Spring Equinox, marked the beginning of the Zodiacal year.
Happy New Year! Time to revamp or restart your New Year’s Resolutions!
The Sumerian and Babylonian cultures considered the first day of Aries as the most auspicious real estate of the Zodiac, the holy of the holiest of times.
Rarely do the astronomical (equinox) and biblical (calendar) new years coincide, but this year they do (New Moon in Aries). In 2023, thanks to Astro-turbo, we will be forced to explore uncharted territory, which could be a good or bad thing. As Saturn moves through Pisces, we may feel like an alien in our own bodies.
In Exodus 12, God uses astrology to explain to Moses that the New Year should begin on the first day of the lunar month of Nissan, which corresponds to the New Moon in Aries. It’s worth noting that God’s mandate to begin the calendar year with Aries appears in the very first line of the 12th chapter. God’s timing is impeccable; there are 12 of everything, one for each tribe and one for each of the 12 signs.
Both the Solar (equinox) and Lunar (New Moon) New Year’s coincide in 2023, making it a year of new beginnings, though anything started then will take a very long time to bear fruit. I felt it necessary to stress once more the significance of this year’s March 21st. Not only do the Solar (bright) and Lunar (dark) calendars coincide on the day of the equinox, but day and night are also equally represented.
On March 21, I suggest contemplating and meditating on balancing your active and receptive energies, your giving and receiving, your yin and yang. Consider how much time you spend doing versus being, controlling versus flowing. Don’t judge yourself, but strive for equilibrium. This will prepare you to honour the upcoming New Moon in Aries, which is the first and possibly most significant New Moon of the year.
B. New Moon in Aries:
The Seed New Moon symbolises the DNA of the upcoming year, and it’s a good time to initiate something new that can help you connect with the Aries within you. For instance, you could start a new exercise routine, engage in a new activity, or embark on a journey of self-discovery. Aries is associated with your body, identity, and the driving force that propels you towards your objectives. What are your desired victories for the year? Who do you want to help as an underdog? How can you harness your inner strengths and the divine spark within you? The Kabbalistic letter for Aries is Hey, which signifies the presence of the divine within you. During this New Moon in Aries, you have the opportunity to connect with the God or Goddess Ambassador within you.
This is a New Moon happening at 0 degrees of Aries, so if there’s ever a New Moon that is truly a new beginning and a fresh start, it is this one. It’s happening at the first degree of the entire zodiac! It takes place on March 21st, 2023, at 7:23 PM (CET).
The Sun and the Moon are obviously at 0 degrees in the first decan of Aries. This is associated with the Two of Wands tarot card, or the “Lord of Dominion”, which indicates a fierce plan forward. Mars rules this card, and the entirety of Aries is ruled by Mars as well, so this is an incredibly Martian New Beginning: very forward-moving, very fast-paced, very fiery, and very direct. Now, this card itself does not show a victory necessarily, but it does show someone that has a lot of confidence and tremendous faith in what they’re doing. This card reflects someone with confidence and faith, ready for adventure, and taking control of their will to catalyze a new beginning. Aries is linked to the Emperor tarot card, signifying leadership and control. The new moon in Aries is conjunct Mercury, so speaking deliberately and boldly is recommended for this overt and empowering time.
Jupiter and Chiron will be conjunct in Aries, with Jupiter expanding and Chiron representing healing vulnerabilities and deep wounds. This may cause ego bruising and emotional sensitivity during Jupiter crossing Chiron. However, it also provides an opportunity to heal and move forward. This New Moon in Aries signifies a time of demanding change and taking control, no longer allowing victimisation and hurt. Look to Aries and your personal triggers to find where to focus your efforts. Overall, this is a sensitive but empowering time.
Mars is currently still squaring Neptune for the third and final time, causing a lack of clarity and confusion in our actions. Despite this, we will come out okay if we take the initiative and push through. Saturn’s recent ingress in Pisces emphasises the importance of emotional boundaries and self-preservation during this time. It’s important to focus on manifesting our goals without worrying about the specifics of how we will achieve them. By the end of the month, the effects of the Mars/Neptune square will subside.
Finally, Venus will be conjunct the North Node in Taurus, which is a favourable combination as Venus represents values, harmony, aesthetics, and love, and Taurus is its natural home. This will create a comfortable environment, perfect for luxury and feeling secure. The North Node amplifies growth, highlighting the importance of comfort, values, and pleasure during this time. It’s an excellent time for partnerships and working together to manifest our desires. This doesn’t necessarily mean a romantic relationship but rather a need to value ourselves and demand what we deserve. The focus is on pursuing what we desire and feeling worthy of it.
Overall, it’s an exciting New Moon that definitely shows we’re sensitive. We’re a little bit confused about what the next steps are going to be, but we’re very empowered over deserving this, and we’re ready to attain it. If you have any thoughts or comments about this New Moon, I would love to hear about them down below. So, feel free to comment and let me know where this is happening in your chart.

II. Pluto in Aquarius:
One of the most significant transits of the coming decades is Pluto’s entry into Aquarius, which will occur briefly from March 23rd to June 11th, 2023. After that, Pluto will retrograde back into Capricorn twice in 2023 and 2024 and then firmly enter Aquarius from November 19th 2024 until January 19th, 2044. It’s important to note that this transit does not signify the Age of Aquarius or a perfect era of freedom. Instead, it will define the next 20 years and have both positive and negative effects. Here are some of my predictions for what we can expect during this time.
In the upcoming years, I anticipate an increase in social movements against technological surveillance and state interference in privacy and autonomy. To understand my prediction, let’s discuss Pluto and Aquarius and their combination. Pluto is associated with death, rebirth, and transformation and is known for its intensity and psychological impact. As it takes 248 years to orbit the zodiac, it will spend 20 years in Aquarius, which will transform social values within this sign. In astrology, planets are like actors, and signs represent the roles they play.
Aquarius is the sign that Pluto is currently in, and while many describe it as the sign of the collective, it’s important to understand that signs are archetypes and ways of behaviour, not things in the world. Aquarius is a fixed sign associated with the middle of winter and is known for stability and dependability. As an air sign, it’s also associated with communication, intellect, and ideas. When you concentrate on ideas, you get social structures, making Aquarius an architect of reality. It’s not a sign of leadership but of vision and oversight. With Pluto in Aquarius, we can expect social structures to be transformed, particularly in regard to technological surveillance and state interference in privacy and autonomy.
And I would definitely emphasise that Aquarius is not inherently disruptive or rebellious. I do not associate Uranus at all with Aquarius. I do not think that Uranus rules Aquarius, and I do not think that Uranus has any connection to Aquarian themes. Aquarius is ruled by Saturn, which is stable, severe, structural, and very serious. So, Aquarius is, therefore, idealistic, yes, and very much a planner for a better world. But it is not chaotic; it is not disruptive. And I think attributing Uranus to Aquarius led to a misunderstanding of Aquarius not being the rebel. It might be a challenger in some very logical ways, but not at all in terms of an upheaval of rebellious energy.
Pluto in Aquarius indicates a dramatic change in social movements and technological advances, which can have both positive and negative effects. However, it also carries the risk of creating a surveillance state where citizens’ rights to privacy are eroded. For example, the “great reset” idea that one not owning anything and being happy is deeply unsettling. At the same time, it also indicates the need to move away from excessive materialism and consumerism through force, unfortunately.
Despite the potential for tribalism and herd mentality, I have come to the unbiased conclusion that Pluto in Aquarius can positively and negatively affect social movements and technological development.
So, let’s look at the last time Pluto was an Aquarius, from 1777 to 1798, as the backbone of our current predictions.
To begin with, China experienced significant growth during the Qing dynasty in the late 18th century. Interestingly, in 2020, the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction occurred on China’s ascendant, marking the first time since Genghis Khan’s reign when the Silk Roads spanned across Eurasia. This bears a resemblance to the Belt and Road initiative. However, this is merely an aside. The fact remains that China’s relevance during this transit is reminiscent of the past and will likely persist, which leads me to my second point.
During the Industrial Revolution, machines replaced humans, leading to an improved standard of living. This era was also characterised by literal war revolutions, including the American Revolution, which technically started in the 1760s and continued until 1791. The Constitution and Bill of Rights were established during this period. Similarly, the French Revolution was a violent, bloody example of this transit, but it was not the only revolution. Other uprisings, including the Liege Revolution, Bourbon Revolution, Haitian Revolution, and the war between Poland and Russia, occurred during this time. The end of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in 1795 was also a significant event. Meanwhile, the Enlightenment continued to unfold.
In 1783, the Russian annexation of Crimea occurred, and the New York Stock Exchange was founded in 1792. Additionally, Kant’s works, such as the Critique of Practical Reason, were published during this period. In these works, Kant explores practical reason, the concept of morality, and the relationship between freedom and morality. He argues that a moral law binds all rational beings and can be discovered through reason. Kant also introduces the concept of the categorical imperative, which is the principle that actions should only be taken if they can be made into universal laws. This work inspired globalism and relates well with Aquarius, which generally rules large networks and humanity. We can see how events in one part of the world, such as China, can impact the rest of humanity, as demonstrated by the Covid-19 pandemic and the Jupiter/Saturn conjunction in Aquarius in December 2022.
More specifically, based on my predictions, I think China will grow in power and influence and will emerge as a major player on the international stage, if not the primary player, especially when compared to the United States. So, in 2026–2028, Pluto will be transiting China’s first house of identity, and I predict that this period will see a more totalitarian expression of China than a utopian one. The North Node and Pluto will both transit through China’s Moon and ascendant at the same time. In my opinion, the years 2026-2028 will be pivotal for China’s global influence.
As a whole, I anticipate a more creative and interesting layout of countries and major cities in the future. For instance, Saudi Arabia’s new smart city (The Line) development is crucial. I’ve read that China is constructing a number of “smart cities,” so I expect the prevalence of autonomous technological cyber cities to grow. I think an AI uprising is also imminent. So, I predict that AI will replace entire industries rather than just replacing humans with machines, as occurred during the Industrial Revolution. Although this may cause short-term industry disruption and job losses, it will ultimately improve people’s standard of living and pave the way for more fulfilling work that better aligns with human interests. In general, I anticipate an increase in revolutionary activity.
I predict more nationalist uprisings than we’ve seen in a long time. I believe it is inevitable that societal schisms will deepen to the point of polarisation and upheaval. It’s only going to get worse from here, and if you don’t think we’re already in a cold civil war in the United States, I think it will soon lead to that. I believe that the World Economic Forum and other like-minded organisations will use this to push for policies like the Great Reset, in which everything is owned, but you are still provided for.
There will be less crime and violence, much more surveillance, less freedom, and fewer opportunities. Pluto and Aquarius may bring innovation but also a lack of spice and interest. The Great Reset, in my opinion, is a prototypical example of the kind of global upheaval that will characterise this era. And to get back to the revolutions: I expect for the next 20 years a revolution in Iran and possibly Brazil. The ascendant of Brazil is at 22 degrees Aquarius, and the North Node is at 15 degrees Aquarius.
The EU may break up due to a shift in countries forming alliances based on shared beliefs and ideals rather than geographical proximity. The fall of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth during a similar planetary alignment supports this possibility. Additionally, the annexation of Ukraine’s Donbas region to Russia seems likely, given similar events in Crimea.
Central Bank digital currencies (CBDCs) will likely become the norm, representing a defining trait of this time period as countries experiment with them. CBDCs are government-run cryptocurrencies that can be manipulated as needed. With the US opening a purchase for a new gold-backed currency, it is logical to assume that they have opened up purchases for gold for a gold-backed CBDC. The Pluto return and the emergence of CBDCs in the US over the next few years pose a risk of becoming part of a social credit system, where citizens’ financial rewards may be based on their beliefs or social status.
This situation has both an inevitability and a dystopian aspect to it, exemplifying Pluto and Aquarius, where technology can facilitate greater connection and ease but also coercion. I anticipate that technology will become more solidly enshrined as a right, akin to how the Constitution and Bill of Rights were ratified in the past. The world’s tax significance will likely lead to new, more substantial legislation being codified this time around.
Watch for March to June 2023 as Pluto briefly enters Aquarius, stations and retreats to 0 degrees, and goes back into Capricorn. This will be an appetiser for what is to come, likely in a positive way, as Pluto squares Jupiter in Taurus in May. The transit truly starts in February 2024 with a defining event, as Pluto loosely squares Jupiter, and from 2026 to 2027, Pluto will be trining Uranus in Gemini and opposing Jupiter in Leo. The North Node in Aquarius in 2027 is also significant. Pluto squaring Saturn in 2029 will be a pushback to innovation, but 2030 to 2031 looks positive with Pluto sextile Jupiter and Neptune and trining Uranus and Saturn in Gemini. 2036 to 2037 has Pluto opposite Saturn, which will be challenging.
III. Mars enters Cancer:
Freedom! After 7 months in Gemini, including a 3-month retrograde, Mars is finally leaving Gemini and entering Cancer on March 25th! Mars is much less combative in Cancer as this is its fall sign (Mars is exalted in Capricorn). That doesn’t mean that Mars’ aggressivity will be toned down to the max, though!
As Mars shifts into the sign of Cancer, it is important to be patient and understanding with your loved ones and housemates as they adjust to this new routine. The cosmic confusion at home can make things even more challenging, so consider taking advantage of this time to focus on spring cleaning, decorating, and decluttering. It’s also important to get some fresh air and exercise together as a group to help alleviate tension caused by cabin fever. If you have lofty goals, this may be the time to start a cottage industry, as Mars in Cancer can inspire innovative business ideas.
However, it’s important to be prepared to deal with family issues quickly if you are planning a relocation or trying to conceive, as Mars’s influence may result in a quicker turnaround time for results. Keep in mind that your home may become a source of these innovative business ideas, and you should consider taking advantage of that as well. Overall, patience and a positive attitude are key during this time of transition.
