Dear NightFall Astrology readers,
There’s no sugar-coating (and you know that this isn’t my style anyway) around this week’s astrological alignments: it’s intense and aggressive! We’re reaching the peak of the Mars retrograde cycle (read my full article about it here) with its opposition to the Sun in Sagittarius & its conjunction with the Full Moon in Gemini, making the whole thing as explosive as it can get! So, brace yourselves!
And by the way, how has this Mars retrograde in the sign of brainstorming and fast communication been treating you? Have you been becoming more open-minded and not taking every piece of information at face value, or did you fall into the self-righteousness trap (too many heated arguments and debates)?
Before flying off the handle, let me tell you that we do have some grounding energy this week with the messenger of the Gods and ruler of our minds (Mercury) and the planet of love and beauty ruling our relationships (Venus) entering ‘no-BS’ Capricorn!
So, let’s get into this unapologetic weekly horoscope.
1. Mercury enters Capricorn:
Want to wrap up 2022 like a boss? Plan, strategise, and negotiate your way to the finish line! This Tuesday, December 6th, nimble Mercury puts your mind on your money as it bounds into ambitious Capricorn for the rest of the year. Set emotions aside and think through goals with objectivity and precision. Cut the fluff and keep it simple. Sometimes, the first answer is the best one. Over the holidays, you could get a jump-start on your 2023 resolutions, as the responsible Capricorn influence will have your mind on the future. Make sure these achievements aren’t SO lofty that they feel out of reach—especially since Mercury will spin retrograde from December 29th to January 18th. Shop talk could filter into end-of-year conversations. As you mingle amongst the revellers and sip top-shelf champagne, think of clever ways to phrase the question that will be at the top of everyone’s mind, “So, what do you do for a living?”
Mercury’s transit through Capricorn will be most grounding for Capricorn, Virgo, Taurus, Scorpio, and Pisces.
2. Full Moon in Gemini & the peak of Mars retrograde:
Words are potent attractors under the light of the loquacious Full Moon in 16 degrees of Gemini this Wednesday and Thursday, December 7th-8th (depending on your time zone; here in France, it’ll be happening on the 8th at 5:08 AM (CET)).
Full Moons (an opposition between the Sun and the Moon) are always about endings, culmination, realisations, and illumination. With a Full Moon in Gemini, these endings and completion (of something you’ve started around this year’s New Moon in Gemini of May 30th) will be in the areas of: thinking patterns, communication, learning and teaching, skill sets, siblings, and short-distance travel.
This is happening with the Sun in the second decan of Sagittarius (ruled by the Moon), which is associated with the nine of Wands tarot card (the “Lord of Strength”). It represents staying the course, not changing your path, and following through with an idea or commitment. More importantly, the Moon is in the second decan of Gemini, known as the “Lord of Cruelty”, associated with the nine of Swords tarot card. Mars rules this decan. Even though Mercury rules Gemini, Mars has co-rulership in this small part in the middle third of Gemini. It indicates restlessly wondering or worrying about something. It is a temporary state of worry or of being concerned about something that leads to mental aggressiveness, which is very in line with this entire Full Moon.
Full Moons are already an increase of energy or when things tend to ignite and come out. With a Full Moon in exact conjunction with Mars retrograde, there’s definitely a challenging quality, showing internal frustration or ongoing obstacles. This shows us, at best, throwing our hands up and being frustrated with the need to revise or reduce something, and at worst, possibly engaging in some pretty heated discourse with others. This Full Moon amplifies the peak of the new 2-year Mars cycle after it conjoined the Sun in Libra on October 8th 2021, because it’s sitting on top of the Mars/Sun opposition! Mercury (the Full Moon’s ruler) in Capricorn will be in an out-of-sign square with Jupiter retrograde in Pisces, exaggerating things even further!
This new Mars cycle started in an air sign, so the opposition (confrontation) will naturally be in the same element. Air rules our minds and communication; therefore, we can’t really expect an escalation of the current Russia/Ukraine armed conflict to a full-blown world war (this would be more of a fire sign situation or an exalted Mars in Capricorn). The air signs (Libra, Aquarius, Gemini) aren’t war-oriented. We’re talking more about information, communication (hate speech, propaganda, fear-mongering), data, trade, transportation and logistics, cyber wars, conflicts, and accidents. This is a legal and political war for justice and freedom of expression.
Any documents, negotiations, and deals should be double-checked. Robberies and lies can be on the rise, too (Mars square Neptune). Fallouts among siblings and neighbours will be more likely than usual.
I think that the best use of this would be put towards redoing something and understanding that we have reached the peak of the effort we’re putting into it. It’s a little frustrating, but we’re glad we’ve done it.
Some of the worst uses could be literally trying to fight or be aggressive with someone, which is never the answer! If you want to get into it, Mars is action and aggression, and a retrograde shows us going back to redo anything ruled by Gemini: mental or intellectual topics. So, we’re likely going back to reconsider our stance on something, how we think about something or our work on a particular intellectual topic…
Full Moons place a dramatic emphasis on something. This could be as simple as realising that we aren’t done with these revisions and having to review them again. Or, it can get as intensely complicated as feeling like we have wasted time working on a particular area of our life.
Uranus is within three degrees of the North Node in Taurus. Uranus is chaos, and the North Node amplifies or increases things, so the background energy is relatively volatile even though it’s not specific to this Full Moon. Alone, it’s pretty much there throughout the entirety of this month. There’s also a loose square from the Moon to Neptune, but it’s nothing too intense. Mars’s separating square to Neptune is still not great (ongoing deception and cyberattacks). The Moon/Neptune square is still not great, but it’s within six degrees (not too close); there’s a lack of clarity and the ability to think concisely. There’s a lot of muddying the waters when Neptune is involved!
I wouldn’t say I like this for anything constructive or gentle. It seems like an angry disruption, but with Mars loosely squaring Neptune, this isn’t the best alignment for clearly taking action or deciding on our next steps plan. I’m not a fan of a Full Moon conjunct Mars either; it looks angry and disruptive! So if I were you, I’d watch my mouth or keyboard (haha!) and think twice before engaging in verbal confrontation! Brain dump it in your journal instead!
With 16 degrees (of Gemini) being ruled by Cancer, this makes this Full Moon even more emotional, and arguments within families or regarding real-estate matters and women’s issues are highlighted!
Gemini, Sagittarius, Pisces, and Virgo will feel this Full Moon most intensely. Especially those of you who have your Sun, Moon, Ascendant, Descendant, Midheaven, I.C. or any other important planet or point in your chart around 16° of these signs (give or take 2-3 degrees).
3. Venus square Jupiter:
People might talk a good game, but can they back up their words with action? That’s questionable as heavenly optimists Venus and Jupiter get locked in a sense-blurring square early this Friday, December 9th. Both planets have a strict “no negative vibes” policy, but rocking the rose-coloured glasses puts you in a gullible position. To avoid being a victim of this “hustler’s holiday,” take nothing at face value. Drop your date’s name into Google. Ask the tough questions at the pitch meeting. If people are as legit as they present, background checks will make you more confident about moving forward. Besides, even the most solid relationships require periodic reviews. Have a sit-down with your sweetie, if only to get back on a level playing field. Remember: Assumptions are the enemy of intimacy! Ask the difficult questions, and don’t interrupt while people are answering. While you may hear a few uncomfortable truths, better to get it all out into the open than to let it fester.
This transit will be most challenging for Pisces, Sagittarius, Virgo, and Gemini.
4. Venus enters Capricorn:
What’s next for your love life? Sharpen the focus of your relationship goals later this Friday as amorous Venus shifts into structured Capricorn until January 2nd. Couples can align around your shared future, discussing your 2023 dreams by the fireplace. If you’re single and looking, search for someone who is ready for meaningful co-creation, like now. Matters of the heart will get serious…but they don’t have to be as serious as a heart attack! Playful, seductive Venus likes to keep the mood light. Defining nebulous situationships could be a fun game of “You show me your bucket list, I’ll show you mine!” Or, if you’re the type who doesn’t even think about bucket lists, well, maybe it’s time to write one. With driven Capricorn ruling romance for the next few weeks, couples could achieve something memorable—and profitable—as a pair. No apologies for being attracted to status now. If you’re looking to “date up,” ‘tis the season for strategic mistletoe placement.
Venus’s transit through Capricorn will be most favourable for Capricorn, Taurus, Virgo, Scorpio, and Pisces.
