Dear NightFall Astrology readers,
Are you still feeling last week’s wild Solar Eclipse in dark and esoteric Scorpio? I bet you are. What attachments did you let go of to get your new beginning; what did you transform? I’d really like to know your own stories, so if you feel comfortable enough, please do share them in the comments!
Anyways, back to business: the Universe is never random; we’re literally in-between worlds just like on Halloween or Samhain, as we’re crossing the eclipse portal to get on the other side with next week’s Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Taurus (that’ll be pretty chaotic with Uranus involved there, but more on that in next week’s horoscope!) officially closing eclipse season for 2022. There’s an urge to finish it all and get over and done with it in the air, right? We’re tired of waiting in the vestibule (I like this word, and Mars retrograde in Gemini is making me chattier than usual, it’s actually trining the Moon in Aquarius while I’m writing this, so here I am, rambling, but you like my rambles don’t you?).
It’s an eerie period and the best advice I can give you until eclipse season is over is to keep your schedule light and elastic. No matter what is on your agenda at the time, something else will come in to demand immediate attention. Leos tend to feel new moon solar eclipses strongly because the Sun is their ruler. Said another way, the Sun rules Leo. Cancers tend to feel full moons and lunar eclipses strongly, as the Moon rules Cancer. This is the general rule, but the signs particularly affected by this eclipse series are Scorpio, Taurus, Aquarius, and Leo (also known as the “fixed signs” (go try and tell those to make a change! They have huge amounts of resistance!). But whether you like it or not, eclipses are times of dramatic and wild changes usually brought in by a catalyst event you weren’t expecting.
This in-between eclipses week is all about reevaluating (the hardcore way) our values in our relationships and finances, with Venus activating the Saturn/Uranus square (the battle between the old and the new) this weekend, and the first quarter Moon in Aquarius giving us a solid emotional preview of that earlier in the week.
So let’s dive into it! Here’s your weekly horoscope.
1. First quarter Moon in Aquarius: a preview of the Venus/Saturn/Uranus T-square:
From October 31st until November 2nd (oh dear, three days, as long as Samhain (Halloween) is celebrated in the Celtic tradition!), the Moon will be in Aquarius, hitting its first quarter phase (on Tuesday, November 1st), meaning we’re halfway through until the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Taurus that’ll be taking place next week on November 8th!
Will this first quarter Moon bring a moment of sanity in your relationships and finances? Profound epiphanies? Probably both.
It also means there is zero justification for showing up with a basic pair of vampire’s teeth or a paper mask you threw down at the checkout counter when buying your La Croix and breath mints. (Unless, of course, you can back it up with enough humour to make the simplicity your schtick…stick.) Lights, sequins, and sound effects! This extra flourish doesn’t have to take more than an hour. See what wonders you can work with some battery-operated LEDs tucked under cotton or sheer fabric strands. Halloween is a notoriously frisky day… there’s something about those costumes. And it’s almost too easy to push it past the edge under an Aquarius moon. But before you go gaga for a Top Gun Maverick or a Euphoria clone, find out if they came to the party with a plus-one (or have one waiting at home). Attached? Don’t go bobbing for apples in someone else’s pond. Sorry, “But it’s Halloweennnnn!” is never a legit justification!
Another bit of advice for early this week: Protect your tech! As the Moon moves through digitally savvy Aquarius on Monday and Tuesday, it sends a friendly reminder that not every app you download or feed you follow is, well, friendly. Nowadays, it’s almost too easy to pass around disinformation via memes or buy into 30-second product reviews from an “expert” whose only real credentials are TikTok editing skills. Just because you upload, post and save to the cloud, how secure IS your data, really? And are your favourite apps tracking your every move (and geotagging them, to boot) because you kept the location accuracy “on” in the settings? It might make your head explode to think about this, and if so, you should probably hire someone with IT cred to ensure that you’re not leaving yourself vulnerable.
2. The Sun conjoins the South Node:
From November 4th until November 8th (exact on November 5th), the Sun and the South Node of the Moon will conjoin in mystical Scorpio. If you haven’t exactly understood what toxicity you need to purge out of your life, you won’t be able to miss it during this transit!
The Sun is our awareness, core identity (spirit), and vitality; everything revolves around it! Long ago, half-legendary Hermes Trismegistus crystallised the entirety of astrological theory in four simple words – “As above, so below.” Saying that everything revolves around the Sun embodies that Hermetic principle perfectly.
Above, in the sky, the Sun is the gravitational centre of the solar system. Here below, on earth, is your head’s gravitational centre. On both levels, the Sun’s job is to hold the planets in their courses – and by “the planets in your head,” we mean all your contradictory, paradoxical needs, drives, and values. Being human is complicated. We’re pulled in so many directions, torn between appetites and integrity, pleasure and productivity, and so on. Still, you get out of bed in the morning and have a sense of who you are. You have an identity. There is reasonable continuity in your life. That’s the Sun at work, with its “gravity” coalescing you into one reasonably coherent whole.
Make a strong response to the Sun, and your life holds together. You feel like you are on the right course, and you probably are. You feel authentic and natural. In a nutshell, taking care of the Sun is the secret of sanity.
In the course of a year, the Sun transits around your chart once. Another way to say the same thing is that the Sun makes every possible aspect to everything in your chart every twelve months. It has, in other words, a little conversation with every one of those “planets in your head,” updating them about who you have become, trying to get them to align with the evolving program of your soul’s journey.
Those transits of the Sun to your natal planets are all very personal and unique to you. I want to explore the transiting Sun from a slightly different angle in this article. Let’s look at it from the perspective of the current aspects it is making to the other planets in the sky. In doing that, we’re not only looking at your journey through the planetary weather this month but also the collective human journey.
What’s at stake here for everybody are the basic treasures of the Sun: a feeling of sanity, a sense of being on the right path, and keeping up our basic vitality – how we might maintain a “sunny” disposition, despite everything.
This November, while the Sun is traversing Scorpio, it makes six important aspects – five of them to planets and one to the lunar nodal axis. On November 22nd, it enters Sagittarius and then makes no more major aspects until December, when it opposes Mars and squares Neptune before moving on into Capricorn.
When the Sun conjoins exactly the South Node this Saturday, November 5th, the transiting Sun also opposes the North Node, which lies in Taurus. The South Node holds us back (that’s why a decrease or a let-go needs to happen there) while the North Node beckons us forward (indicating an increase in that area). “It was good enough for my grandparents, so it’s good enough for me” – those words alert us to one of the main pitfalls of Taurus. The Bull is famously stubborn and resistant to change. Just remember that can be a good thing too! It all depends on how you aim for that fierce, unyielding commitment.
For a day or two on either side of November 5th, reflect on your own wounded places – that’s Scorpio territory. They are “up” in your consciousness now. Where in your life do you keep doing the same thing, hoping for a different result? How does that feel in your body – that’s classic Taurean territory – trusting your gut instincts? Because of the laws of synchronicity, you will probably find yourself staring at the evidence as the Sun triggers the Nodes – and with the cutting-edge north node in Taurus, a willingness to commit to a relentless effort to break those old habits is your best ally.
3. Venus activates the Saturn/Uranus square:
Also, on November 5th, Venus will join the Sun and the South Node in Scorpio and form a T-square with Saturn in Aquarius and Uranus and the North Node in Taurus. Saturn is the strongest planet and focal point of this challenging configuration.
This is make-or-break energy. Even though Venus is in detriment in Scorpio (one of the less optimal positions for Venus as it rules Taurus, and Scorpio is its opposite sign), it doesn’t walk away easily from situations. In Scorpio, Venus is very loyal and attached (too much sometimes). So this aspect has the potential for working through the challenges by becoming aware (the Sun in Scorpio is in this configuration, too) of what doesn’t serve us anymore in our relationships and finances, without necessarily burning bridges. Saturn being the focal point of the configuration, it’s all about building up from foundations that are working for us and adopting a detached and pragmatic approach while “destroying” the values that don’t hold the situation together any longer (Uranus in Taurus); in other words, Venus says: “I need to see some big changes here in order to stay!”. Side note: we’ve been reviewing those values since Uranus turned retrograde on August 24th, 2022!
The entirety of these transits will affect most strongly Scorpio, Taurus, Aquarius, and Leo.
Keep on transforming, my friends, for you will rise stronger than ever like a true Phoenix!
