Dear NightFall Astrology readers,
Are you tired of reviewing and reassessing your relationships for the last couple of weeks? I know, this Mercury retrograde in Libra has been hammering us with a large handful of nitpicking from the planet of love (Venus) currently transiting its fall sign: Virgo. This week, the judgemental attitude may increase when Mercury slips back into its exaltation sign: Virgo. The messenger of the Gods will join Venus next week for one final exam of all the unnecessary hassle that had to be dropped, redirecting our focus towards the best way we can serve our significant others, business partners, friends, and family.
I do come bearing good news, though: the work we’ve been putting in since the spring equinox will bear its fruit starting this Friday on the autumn equinox (known as Mabon in Celtic mythology) when the Sun enters Libra! Zeus’s verdict will be delivered to us on the same day when Mercury retrograde will make its inferior conjunction to the Sun, bringing us clarity of purpose and direction in our relationships and contracts and… a new beginning (the only cheat day during a Mercury retrograde when we’re allowed to start something new). Sunday’s New Moon in Libra will officially kickstart the autumnal magic for us. It’s time to collaborate, cooperate, and co-create!
Here’s your weekly horoscope.
1. Venus trine Uranus:
From September 18th until September 21st (exact on September 19th), Venus in Virgo will trine (harmonious aspect) Uranus retrograde in Taurus. This is tremendous energy for swiftly smoothing any tense situations in our relationships. It’s also the perfect time to exchange surprises with our significant others and set ourselves free from any lingering restrictions and limitations at work, in our health, and in our finances.
This transit will be most supportive of Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn, Cancer, and Pisces.
2. Libra season begins, the Sun/Mercury inferior conjunction, & Mercury’s re-entering Virgo:
a) The Sun enters Libra:
On Friday, September 23rd, pause for a moment and give gratitude for the light on the powerful autumn equinox before it starts fading and ponders into darkness (Persephone’s descent into the underworld) in the upcoming weeks leading us to the winter solstice. In tropical astrology, all the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) mark the start of the four seasons; they’re thus linked to initiation. Libra – the cardinal air sign ruling relationships, contracts, diplomacy, harmony, and justice – starts Autumn for those of us who live in the Northern hemisphere.
Since Libra is the sign of the scales, join forces with people who have complementary skill sets. That’s what creates the perfect balance. This gracious zodiac season is ideal for networking with new folks while also fortifying existing relationships. No need to wait until the holidays to send gifts to your top clients or treat a prospective project partner to lunch. Personalised touches, however big or small, will go a long way to cement loyalty.
Cupid will make plenty of cameos over the next four weeks, and many of his arrows are sure to hit the mark. (Provided you open your heart and provide a clear shot, of course.) If you’ve been flying solo, it’s time to collaborate and communicate with joy once again. And indulge! Libra season gives us a weak spot for life’s finer things: haute cuisine, beautiful fabrics, art, music and all kinds of revelry. Just watch the cash flow when following the hedonistic impulses. In between wining and dining, go out of your way to appreciate the “little things.” Is it time to make a peace offering? Libra’s harmonious vibes help smooth over rough patches in our most important unions. It’s rarely too late to at least TRY to make amends. Thanks to the gracious diplomacy of this solar cycle, others are more willing to accept a heartfelt apology.
b) The inferior conjunction between the Sun and Mercury retrograde:
We’ll be very much mentally aware of the fresh energy that Libra season brings as right after the Sun starts its annual transit in this sign, it will conjoin Mercury retrograde at 0°14’. The 0-degree symbolises the emphasised essential features of each sign. In this case, 0 degrees of Libra possesses the basic symbolism of harmony, beauty, luxury, art, diplomacy, justice, relationships and partnerships. This conjunction brings a breath of fresh air into all these areas through increased mental alertness and clear-cut communication. It’s the perfect day to make amends with someone and start over as mythologically, Mercury’s inferior conjunction with the Sun is linked to Zeus’s verdict on Hermes (Mercury) stealing 50 cows from his half-brother (the God Apollo) and sacrificing 2 of them, which ended in Zeus deciding not to punish Hermes as he found the story amusing, but made him return the herd back to Apollo.
Generally speaking, this Friday will be very favourable for business deals, negotiations, media, writing, public speaking engagements, and short-distance travel.
This conjunction will be most auspicious for Libra, Gemini, Aquarius, Leo, and Sagittarius.
c) Mercury re-enters Virgo:
The devil is in the microscopic details again starting Friday as retrograde Mercury slips back from even-keeled Libra into keen-eyed Virgo. Review everything in the finest setting possible during the backspin, which lasts until October 2nd. Be an unapologetic purist when you go on any research or sourcing missions. Constructive feedback is hard to suppress while Mercury’s in its home sign of analytical Virgo—but check the judgmental attitude. Buffer your pro tips with a “praise sandwich,” starting and ending with the positives so people feel empowered by your input. Focus on wellness, too! With the mindful planet in this healthy sign, you can successfully start (and sustain) new habits by writing things down and planning ahead. Keep it simple!
Mercury’s backspin through Virgo will be most significant for Virgo, Gemini, Sagittarius, and Pisces.
3. Venus opposing Neptune:
From September 22nd until September 26th (exact on September 24th), Venus in Virgo will oppose (challenging aspect) Neptune retrograde in Pisces. This transit can cloud our judgement when it comes to our finances and one-on-one interactions with others, especially in romantic relationships. Uncovering deceptive behaviours is very likely under this transit.
On the positive side, it’s excellent energy for making an effort to show more compassion and/or get inspired for artistic and spiritual activities.
This transit will be most challenging for Pisces, Virgo, Gemini, and Sagittarius.
4. The New Moon in Libra:
Ready for some world-class romance—and romanticising? On Sunday, September 25th, at exactly 11:54 PM (CET), the New Moon in 2°49’ of Libra, the only one this year, tickles us pink.
This New Moon is a new beginning happening in the first decan of Libra ruled by the Moon and represented by the “two of swords” card (also called the “Lord of Peace”) in Tarot. Having a New Moon in a Moon-ruled decan enhances the meditative state shown by the two of swords card where a blindfolded maiden (the perfect representation of “justice is blind”) is holding two balanced swords. The new beginnings ushered in by this New Moon can be summed up as the following: “let me get away from the chatter and reconnect with my inner self in order to reach the fairest solution to a problem or a conflict”. So even though Libra is a cardinal air sign symbolising initiative energy in the realms of intellect, communication, and one-on-one interactions, this first decan of this sign encourages us to tap into the darkness and stillness of the New Moon, set our intentions, and take a moment before acting upon whatever decision we have reached in the areas ruled by this zodiac sign.
The New Moon’s opposition to Jupiter retrograde in Aries offers more auspicious energy for resolving past issues and problems in relationships and partnerships and starting over. There might be more than one option or opportunity to choose from, as Jupiter rules abundance and good fortune. The only thing to keep in mind is that some of the new opportunities might be overly optimistic and not thought out in detail, so make sure to act with discernment (Mercury retrograde in Virgo will be making an out-of-sign conjunction to the New Moon).
The New Moon’s dispositing planet – Venus in Virgo – will also be conjoining Mercury and trining (harmonious aspect) Pluto retrograde in Capricorn, possibly bringing up past emotional issues that will be resolved smoothly, potentially reigniting the flame in a passionate romantic relationship. However, with Mercury still being retrograde in Virgo until October 2nd, try to remember that everyone has a “human” side, which, of course, is why marriage vows include the “for worse” clause. So even if your hormones are firing on all cylinders, take time to learn the full spectrum of any fascinating new characters who come into your life. Need to find a better balance between “mine” and “ours”? Healthy relationships include room for autonomy as well as togetherness. Couples may begin meaningful conversations around ways to better support each other’s independent interests—without getting triggered or threatened!
The Venus/Pluto trine is also great for purging negative emotions, successful financial decisions and operations, negotiations with influential people, and positive transformation of our physical appearance.
Finally, 2 degrees of Libra is the Taurus degree, highlighting the importance of our own self-esteem and self-worth in order to start or maintain healthy relationships. New opportunities for increasing our income and resources are also underlined by this degree.
This New Moon will be felt most intensely by Libra, Aries, Cancer, and Capricorn. Especially those of you who have your Sun, Moon, Ascendant, Descendant, Midheaven, IC or any other important planet or point in your chart around 2° of these signs (give or take 2-3 degrees).
“I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason and intellect has intended us to forgo their use.”
