My dear universal truth seekers!
This week is supercharged with cosmic energy! Are you ready for this deep karmic dive?
Before we dive into this week’s karmic horoscope, I’d like to give you a brief introduction to eclipses, if you’re not familiar with their signification in astrology.
Eclipses are dramatic “wild cards” in our horoscopes. They are some of the most dramatic tools that the universe uses to get us to pay attention to areas in our life that need to change. They uproot us, surprise us, and get us moving. They shake us out of our feelings of compliancy so that we can move from one level of maturity to another, to a higher plane, and they work very rapidly. Eclipses want us to change, and change we do!
A lunar eclipse happens when the moon conjoins its south node. What is the south node of the moon? It’s a fictional mathematical point where the Moon’s orbit intersects the ecliptic. This is an astrological calculation as we’re analysing everything from Earth’s point of view. We’re projecting the celestial sphere onto Earth. This is the basis of Tropical Western astrology. Astronomically, a lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon moves into the Earth’s shadow. This can occur only when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are exactly or very closely aligned (in syzygy) with Earth between the other two, and only on the night of a full moon.
Eclipses always arrive in pairs, coinciding with new moon and full moons, as solar and lunar eclipses, respectively. They appear in a family of signs that are joined on the same axis. Said another way, eclipse families come in pairs of signs that are found exactly opposite each other (six months apart) on the horoscope wheel. Solar eclipses (new moon conjunct the north node) are about karmic new beginnings; lunar eclipses signify karmic endings.
The current one is happening on the Gemini-Sagittarius axis: the knowledge and communication axis. The north node of the Moon has been transiting the sign of Gemini, and the South node the sign of Sagittarius. So, what we’ve been headed towards is focused on learning, facts, communication and analytical skills, short-distance travel, our immediate environment, and what we’ve been leaving behind is focusing too much on the big picture, international affairs, theoretical concepts and ideas, dogmatism, out-dated belief systems, long-distance travel.
This is the first eclipse of 2021, officially opening eclipse season for us and continuing the eclipses we’ve been having in these signs since May 2020. The next one will be happening in 2 weeks, on June 10th, but it will be a solar eclipse (new moon) in 19°47′ of Gemini (I’ll be writing a special article about that during that week).
And so! With this first lunar eclipse in Sagittarius, we’re entering what we call “the portal of eclipses”, which is something like an in-between worlds transitional energy, giving us access to higher wisdom. With this week’s lunar eclipse, we’re wrapping up, coming to a conclusion/truth or a culmination of whatever we started during the last solar eclipse in Sagittarius that happened on December 14th, 2020. Think back to what kind of new beginning you initiated back then in your life? You’ll be reaching a milestone regarding this endeavour in the upcoming 3-6 months. Whatever it was, the event was important for sure.
The last time we’ve had the same lunar eclipse in 5° of Sagittarius was on May 26th, 2002. If you’re old enough and remember this period of your life, the events that will unfold for you this time will be similar to those that took place on that date. Astrology and hermeticism, in general, are about cycles. These cycles keep repeating themselves on Earth and in our lives like fractal geometry. The Universe is cyclical and infinite like that.
On a mundane level, the events that surrounded the Lunar eclipse that happened on May 26th, 2002, are the following:
- May 12 – Buran, the Russian equivalent to the Space Shuttle, was destroyed in a storm at Baikonur.
- May 20 – East Timor regained its independence after 2-and-a-half years of United Nations administration and 26 years of occupation by Indonesia since 1975.
- May 24 – In Moscow, United States President George W. Bush and Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the Strategic Offensive Reductions Treaty to replace the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty of 1972 and the START II Treaty of 1993.
- May 25 – A Boeing 747 operating as China Airlines Flight 611 broke up and crashed in the Taiwan Strait, killing all 225 passengers and crew on board.
- May 31 – June 30 – The 2002 FIFA World Cup took place in South Korea and Japan, which was ultimately won by Brazil.
- June 4 – 2002 FIFA World Cup: The South Koreans achieved their first-ever FIFA World Cup match victory (not the whole tournament). South Korea had never won a World Cup match before.
As you can see, we had some milestone but also dramatic events under the Sagittarius themes: international travel and international affairs/diplomacy, reflecting the unpredictable and chaotic nature of an eclipse again. During last year’s solar eclipse in December 2020, various COVID-19 vaccines were launched. So, conclusions about the pandemic will also be in the spotlight during this time.
The eclipse is happening on May 26th at 1:14 PM (CET) in 5°26′ of Sagittarius. Numerologically, the number 5 represents Mercury and Hermes Trismegistus (the ancient wise figure to whom we owe astrology and the whole hermetic philosophy that originated in Babylon 5,500 years ago BC). Consequently, this eclipse directly links to the upcoming Mercury retrograde in its own sign of Gemini, adding to the karmic mutability and unpredictability of the energy. Saturn will start moving in a retrograde motion exiting its stationary retrograde phase on May 27th, which strengthens, even more, the karmic quality of this week. Retrogrades often bring people and situations from the past for a review, re-evaluation or closure.
I’ll be sending an exclusive Saturn retrograde horoscope for each of the 12 signs to my newsletter subscribers, so if you haven’t joined my mailing list yet, make sure to do so through this link!
This eclipse will be in a T-square (very tense aspect) with Jupiter in Pisces (the dispositor/ruling planet of the eclipse). Jupiter in Pisces is idealistic, artistic and spiritual. However, with a lunar eclipse (full moon on steroids), our heightened emotions can get extremely confused, so it’s better to stay still and don’t make any important decisions or take major actions this week. Just let things unfold, and pay attention to what’s happening. However, the moon will be in a trine (harmonious aspect) with Chiron in Aries, bringing us some healing energy to our own identities.
This eclipse will be significant for anyone who has Sun, Moon, Ascendant, Midheaven, Descendant or Imum Coeli around 5° (give or take 2°) of the mutable signs: Sagittarius, Gemini, Pisces or Virgo.
Bear in mind that this information remains general. It will depend on your own birth chart. If you’d like to know in detail what your birth chart holds for you or get a personalised horoscope, you can book a reading with me here.
The confusing energy will be maximised by 2 other alignments this week:
- Mercury in Gemini is still squaring Neptune and will continue onto next week as Mercury is stationing retrograde on May 30th and then will be moving very slowly! This can give way to false information exchange, rumours and gossip, so be careful during this period!
Mercury will remain retrograde from May 30th until June 23rd. This isn’t a good time to initiate any new communications and learning projects, buy new high-tech items, or sign new documents and contracts. However, it’s the perfect time to review situations already in place around these topics (repairing a high-tech item or renegotiating a contract, for example).
- From May 24th until May 27th, Venus in Gemini will also be squaring (tense aspect) Neptune in Pisces. This can bring unrealistic expectations and deception, especially around relationships and money. Don’t take any risks in investments, cryptocurrencies, and avoid lending money to others.
Pisces, Gemini, Virgo and Sagittarius should remain particularly careful with their money.
Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn are still under stress because of Mars’ transit in Cancer. Patience is the key here.
Scorpio and Taurus are encouraged to reevaluate their financial situation. Mars in Cancer is supportive energy for material gains.
Leo and Aquarius will have the opportunity to review their relationships with their loved ones and children this week.
Wishing you an extraordinarily spiritual week!
