Dear NightFall Astrology readers,
This year’s New Moon in Pisces, which kicks off the last week of February, is probably my favourite New Moon of the year! If you’ve been reading my articles and posts for a while, you’ve probably noticed that my favourite word for magic and manifestation is SERENDIPITY (well, it’s also one of my favourite words in general)! It is usually defined as “a lucky coincidence” or “a fortunate accident”. But if you’re into astrology and esotericism, you KNOW that there’s no such thing! My dear metaphysics professor’s favourite saying is: “Coincidence is what God calls himself when He wants to remain anonymous”. How incredibly accurate is that?!
Anyway, this week’s New Moon in Pisces is the epitome of Serendipity (I really wanted to put it in the title yet again, but my creative Leo self needed more originality! Here’s a little backstory for you!). Not only do we get to have some pretty exciting Moon Magic, but we’re also still flowing into the beautiful, compassionate, loving and spiritual energy of the Venus/Neptune conjunction (Venus being exalted and royally lifted in Pisces). And with Venus entering Aries on the same day as the New Moon, the general mood is: “dream big and then go get it”!
Are you feeling inspired already? Good! Now keep reading as I dive into the details of this week’s transits.
I. New Moon in Pisces:
This New Moon is quite dreamy but not quite delusional, and it’s quite “lucky” if you want to call it that (and “lucky” isn’t a word I use lightly). So, if you want a good day, and maybe even a few days following, to manifest or start anything new, this could be a good time.
It’s happening at the very beginning, at one degree of Pisces on February 20th at 8:06 AM (CET), really kicking off Pisces season. New Moons are always when the Sun and the Moon are together at the same degree. It starts off the lunar cycle.
The Sun and Moon are together at one degree of Pisces, which is in the first decan of this sign. This part of Pisces is associated with the Six of Cups tarot card, known as the “Lord of Abandoned Success”. The image on the card portrays a person averting their gaze from a cup, symbolising the act of moving away from the superficial and delving deeper within to gain insight and understanding. This pursuit of spiritual growth often requires relinquishing materialistic pursuits and embarking on a solitary quest. Therefore, this New Moon is not a time for thrilling external experiences but rather an opportunity for introspection and a beautiful, spiritual journey. New moons are inherently introspective, so this one should be approached as a more contemplative and introspective occasion.
Pisces is ruled by Jupiter, the planet of exploration and of growth, and Jupiter is in Aries, a sign of cardinal fire, which highlights individuality in the self. This again emphasises this being the perfect time to start something around personal growth, self-development, an artistic or creative project, or a spiritual journey. The Sun and Moon are within three degrees of Saturn at 28 degrees of Aquarius, and this is an out-of-sign conjunction, but because it’s within three degrees, it is still relevant. Out-of-sign definitely means the energy is not quite as intense, but proximity to Saturn adds seriousness, maturity, and a little heaviness or sobriety to it. Instead of being completely Piscean and extremely idealistic and dreamy, this adds a nice touch of realism that I appreciate.
On the flip side, with Venus in Pisces conjunct Neptune, we have the epitome of spiritual, beautiful, but delusional energy. To sum up, I appreciate both of these happening simultaneously. If you’re looking for someone who is beautiful, unconditional, and aesthetically pleasing, look no further than Venus in Pisces, where she is exalted and backed by an abundance of positive, supportive energy. Venus represents the pursuit of sensual pleasure in the material world. Neptune is the next octave up, so it’s no surprise that the planet is linked to ecstatic states of mind. It could be very drunk, but it’s also capable of being very enlightening. Having them both in Pisces fortifies a dreamy, beautiful energy that is highly imaginative, alienating, and potentially illuminating on a spiritual level.

Anyway, I do really appreciate that there’s an out-of-sign conjunction to Saturn in Aquarius to even this out. So, it’s not completely up in the air, and there’s also the lucky quality to this thanks to the New Moon not squaring Mars in Gemini by degree (only by sign). Let me explain this further: the Sun and Moon are at the first degree of Pisces, while Venus and Neptune are situated at the final degrees of the sign (29 degrees, to be precise). On the other hand, Mars in Gemini is positioned in the middle at the 15-degree mark. While there is a sign-based square between Mars and all the planets in Pisces, it is not in close proximity to any of them by degree, thanks to the fortunate timing of the placement of the planets. Although there may be some minor restlessness, it is not a significant issue as the planets are not in immediate proximity. Moreover, the New Moon is especially opportune, as Venus is at the end of Pisces and is almost departing, leaving a chance to use this lucky and propitious energy. This means that a sense of “last chance” energy adds to this New Moon’s favourable nature.
Mercury in Aquarius is squaring Uranus within three degrees (this challenging aspect becomes exact the next day: February 21st), so the communication is slightly disruptive. It’s possible that you’ll feel scattered and disoriented, but rest assured that this is not the end of the world. It is a little chaotic in terms of how people communicate with one another and maybe even a bit shocking in how they use language. This New Moon is beautiful in every way! It’s lovely, it’s fantastic, and I intend to put this power to good use. When things get tough, I tend to step up to the plate. I don’t remember many times like this one, so I’m glad to feel the relatively upbeat vibes of this New Moon. Please share your ideas about this New Moon in the comments section. It’s an exciting time to examine how it’s manifesting in your personal chart!
Pisces, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Gemini will feel this New Moon most intensely. Especially those of you who have your Sun, Moon, Ascendant, Descendant, Midheaven, I.C. or any other important planet or point in your chart around the first degree of these signs (give or take 2-3 degrees).
II. Venus enters Aries:
Also, on Monday, Venus will enter courageous Aries, further increasing the heat until March 16th. It’s important that the ice not be melted too quickly. Venus, the planet of slow-burning seduction, is challenged by its position in fiery Aries (its sign of detriment). A relationship under this erratic sign may start strong but quickly fizzle out. You’ll be ghosted one day and stuck together the next. (But have no fear; they will return; then disappear; then reappear.) Coupled? Flaming attraction to someone outside of your relationship can take you by surprise. You don’t have to do anything with your newfound confidence—just take it back to your significant other. Venus in fearless Aries can re-ignite your desire to mingle if you’ve hit a rut in your dating life.
This transit will be most beneficial for Aries, Leo, Sagittarius, Gemini, and Aquarius.
III. Mercury trines Mars:
Did you get worried about the abovementioned Mercury/Uranus square? Well, here comes more cosmic support with an extremely harmonious trine between Mercury in Aquarius and Mars in Gemini from February 21st until February 23rd (exact on February 22nd). This is a mentally and physically stimulating energy. This timing is favourable for any kind of communication, putting plans into action, and increased productivity in day-to-day life. Fun activities with friends, workmates, or relatives are energised.
This transit will be most supportive of Gemini, Aquarius, Libra, Leo, and Aries.
Thank you for reading.
