Dear NightFall Astrology readers,
If you think you’ve been lagging behind everyone else at the start of this new year, think again! The skies are the same for everyone, and retrogrades aren’t fun for anyone (I guess I’m as annoyed as you by how slow things have been that I’m writing rhymes now, huh?)! However, they’re an internal time to take inventory and rethink what’s already happened.
BUT the astrology is shifting this week, and things should lighten up for all of us! So until Starting this Thursday, January 12th, Mars stations DIRECT, and we’ll be left with only 2 retrograde planets: Mercury (watch your communication) and Uranus (keep reviewing the major shifts in your values, self-worth, and finances). This means that a big part of the confusion and struggle will be over (Mars rules our drive and actions, after all).
You’ll see the pace picking up and be much more conducive for finishing your projects, achieving your goals, or simply switching to a new mindset (it all starts there, doesn’t it?).
Speaking of movement, we’ll also be experiencing some suddenness in our finances and relationships this weekend! Will it be good or bad? Well, it’s up to you how you’ll choose to use this kind of disruptive energy!
{ Before we ‘proceed’ to this week’s ‘deep astrology’, I have an important update to share with you:

Now, let’s get into the weekly forecast.
1. Venus trines Mars retrograde:
From January 8th until January 11th (exact on January 9th), intellectual chemistry may set off a severe case of the butterflies as Venus and Mars enter a harmonious air trine. With Venus in inventive Aquarius and Mars in talkative Gemini, you can try something completely new—if you have the courage. The energy of a conversation can travel through you like a wave, even if it never becomes physically intimate.
Also, Mars is in retrograde until Thursday, so take things slowly if you aren’t sure. Some enticing messages may flash across your screen, or a friend of a friend may be attractive enough for you to exchange numbers. Even if you don’t use dating apps, you could meet someone interesting at a bar or other local hangout. Send a playful DM and propose a surprise date to your significant other. Quit doing the same old things and try something new!
This transit will be most favourable for Gemini, Aquarius, Libra, Sagittarius, and Aries.
2. Mars stations Direct:
On Thursday, January 12th, the tense retrograde phase that began on October 30th is over as fiery Mars blazes forward in persuasive Gemini. Tension subsides after a period of resistance lasting several weeks. People can be easily persuaded to support your ambitious plans. Here’s the catch, though: if you want to keep their faith, you have to actually deliver. Due to Mars’ unusually long stay in Gemini (seven months, as opposed to the usual seven or eight weeks), breaking promises will carry a heavy price. As of the 20th of August, 2022, Mars has been in the constellation Gemini, where it will remain until the 25th of March, 2023. Carefully screened power pairs may take off between now and the beginning of spring. A word of caution: this transit can also attract fast-talking charlatans and devil’s advocates who want to argue for the sake of argument, or worse.
You’re probably asking yourself: what’s the difference between a planet’s stationary and retrograde periods? Well, I’m feeling particularly generous today, so let me explain it quickly to you:
The retrograde period of every planet is divided into three stages: stationary pre-retro, retrograde, and stationary post-retro.
Let’s look back at the car analogy. You got into your vehicle ready to hit the road. Normally you start the ignition and drive to your destination. During the retrograde period, you can still drive the car. However, you can only use the reverse gear. That would be very challenging, especially on highways, with your kids in the backseat making a riot while you twist your neck to get a view of where you are going. But, hey, at least you are getting closer to your destination. During the stationary periods, those two fated days before and after each retrograde, your car refuses to start; it’s dead; better call the towing truck. Now replace “car” with “projects in life.” During stationary periods (here, Mars will be stationary on January 12th and 13th), avoid everything you can, take time off, and chill out. During retro, take heed; things slow down, but you can still make things happen but expect great resistance and friction. I have found the stationary periods to be excellent days for meditation and relaxation.
Psalm 46 suggests that we should “Be still and know that I am God,” which is God’s way of telling us to be a bit stationary to connect to the spark of God within us.
Mars going Direct will get the energy moving for everyone, but Aries, Scorpio, and Gemini will feel particularly relieved in their internal and external worlds.
3. Conflict/argument avoidance isn’t the order of this weekend: the third quarter Moon in Libra and Venus/Uranus square:
Conflict resolution can be uncomfortable, but putting it off until Saturday, January 14th could lead to even more trouble. The waning quarter moon in Libra acts as a diplomat, allowing you to approach the subject delicately. Don’t let your emotions get the best of you as you enter potentially dangerous waters; instead, maintain your composure and take the high road regardless of how you might be feeling. You have nothing to worry about if you have the facts on your side. If you think you haven’t forgotten anything, how confident are you? You might find out that you’re the one who owes an apology with a bit of digging. (Yikes!) If you realise you were wrong, accept responsibility for your mistake. With forgiving Libra leading the way, maybe a huge bouquet of flowers and a fancy dinner out on the town would do the trick to ease tensions.
Peaceful Venus in Aquarius spins into a stressful square with volatile Uranus retrograde in Taurus on Saturday, too (this aspect will be active the entire weekend, though), making it challenging to relax despite the peacekeeping balance of this lunation. Prepare to brace yourself. Many people will be trying to get your time and attention. But all you really need is some personal space! You might want to snap back or send an inflammatory email when you feel cornered, but it’s best to wait a few minutes. When provoked, even the most gentle of people can lose their temper and lash out. Are you in a relationship and feeling bored or claustrophobic? You may feel the urge to run away or cross the line between being spontaneous and being dangerously rash. Compulsive (online) shopping is on the table too! Rather than making any hasty, potentially disastrous decisions, it’s preferable to call a timeout.
This transit will be most challenging for Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius.
In a nutshell, you can ‘officially’ start getting your sh*t together this week!
