Dear ARTEMIS Members,
This week’s astrological weather brings a rare second New Moon in Aries, marking the end of Aries season with a bang. The New Moon is also a transformative solar eclipse, initiating a new eclipse series on the Aries-Libra axis that will last until March 29th, 2025.
As Taurus season begins, it’s time to polish rough visions into sparkling diamonds with the help of practical Taurus. However, Mercury retrograde in Taurus on Friday the 21st could cause plans to sputter and schedules to clash for the next three weeks. This is a time to streamline systems and catch up on “boring” busy work while being mindful of spending, especially with luxury goods.
Here’s your weekly astrological forecast that will guide you through the powerful energies of the celestial realm with expert analysis and unparalleled insights!
I. Total Solar Eclipse in Aries:
The cosmos is poised to unleash a powerful cycle of eclipses spanning over a year and a half, igniting the Ram and Scales in a dance of celestial proportions. The first step in this journey is the eagerly awaited solar eclipse in Aries, ushering in a wave of fiery energy that is palpable in every corner of the universe. As we bask in the excitement of this astrological event, let us also remember the caution that eclipses require, for their transformative power is not to be underestimated.

On April 20th, 2023, at 6:12 AM (CET), the skies will come alive with a total solar eclipse in Aries. A total solar eclipse occurs when the Sun and Moon align at the exact same point in the sky. In this case, the alignment will take place at the tail end of Aries, at 29 degrees and 50 minutes, just before the Taurus season begins.
The third Decan of Aries is where the eclipse will occur, known for its unique blend of Mars and Venus energy. While Mars rules all of Aries, this particular Decan has a touch of Venus rulership, which brings a celebratory and empowering energy to the forefront. Associated with the four of Wands tarot card, this Venusian energy is all about appreciating one’s progress and accomplishments and having a sense of pride and celebration.
However, it’s essential to exercise caution and avoid celebrating too soon and becoming complacent. The downside of this part of the zodiac is that we may become too proud of ourselves without having accomplished enough to warrant that level of celebration.
Solar eclipses mark new beginnings, and embracing change is essential rather than resting on past achievements. Unlike subtle lunar eclipses, they serve as catalysts for defining events of the year. Solar eclipses signify a New Moon on steroids and the downfall of kings in ancient times.
Today, it symbolises the rise of new inspiration, guidance, and impetus in our lives. Remember that the solar eclipse in Aries signifies destruction, but it also provides a catalyst for a new beginning.
Aries, the cardinal fire sign, is known for its lightning-fast pace and direct approach. It’s not one to follow the rules but rather the first to charge ahead fearlessly. Think of it as the 100-meter dash of the zodiac. While it may not be the rebel of the zodiac (that title belongs to Sagittarius), Aries is still a force to be reckoned with. It’s impulsive, courageous, and determined to get what it wants – quickly.
And that’s precisely why Aries often has themes of the self. This fiery sign is all about doing what’s right for you, especially when it comes to making a shift in your self-interest. If you’re feeling a sudden surge of motivation, it’s likely due to this foundational shift. You’re kicking the ball and getting it rolling, paving the way for what’s best for you.
But don’t rest on your laurels just yet. You may have come far, but you’re not at the top of the mountain. The good news is that the solar eclipse within five degrees of the North Node is here to help. The Sun and Moon are pretty close to the North Node, making it a technically total solar eclipse. While the North Node is technically still in Taurus, it’s at the very end, making it a solar eclipse in Aries. This is significant because it’s conjunct Jupiter within six degrees, the planet of exuberance, abundance, and growth.
So, while I don’t recommend starting anything new at this time, there’s still cause for optimism. This solar eclipse has the potential to bring about positive changes and growth, especially in the areas related to your self-interest. Keep pushing forward, and who knows what heights you’ll reach?
The upcoming solar eclipse might just be the positive new beginning we all need, despite the destruction that has come before it. Although Chiron, the asteroid representing vulnerability and healing, is in Aries, it’s not too close to the new moon or the eclipse itself. So don’t expect this to be an emotional event, or anything particularly heartwarming or deep. However, Chiron will be squaring Mars in Cancer, which means tension and conflict could arise. We might find ourselves easily aggravated or triggered, especially with Mars in Cancer already making us particularly petty or sensitive. This square to Chiron could leave us feeling as delicate as a bruised peach, easily sensitive to what’s happening around us. It’s important to remember that this doesn’t mean that what’s happening is bad; it’s just that our egos might be easily bruised during this new beginning.
Venus, the planet of love and relationships, will be in Gemini, creating a challenging square aspect with Saturn in Pisces. This aspect is the most intense and relevant, indicating some inhibition and boundaries around love and appreciation for others. It suggests that we have to embark on a new beginning alone due to something restricting others from helping us. While this is a positive time for new beginnings, we may feel like we can’t trust anyone and prefer to keep our distance from people. The aspect also highlights a dually independent quality, as Aries is already an independent sign, but Venus or Saturn wants to get serious and do things alone. The square also suggests a lack of resources or financial support if we are seeking help from others.
Meanwhile, Mercury will be conjunct Uranus in Taurus, within a two-degree range. This aspect brings radical and disruptive communication, reflecting Uranus’s unpredictable and chaotic nature. However, Taurus, known for its specificity and deliberate approach, tempers the communication style. So, don’t be surprised if people make bold and outrageous statements during this time. They’ll be very firm and succinct, making the world aware of their latest endeavours. On the plus side, this aspect can also spark innovation and genius. Get ready for some thrilling developments!
Some exciting technological achievements will most likely be announced too! But don’t expect these announcements to be low-key or nuanced. Those with something to say will be bold and firm without being overly wordy. Mercury in Taurus is known for being specific and deliberate with its communication.
The solar eclipse is happening at 29 degrees of Aries, almost in Taurus, and it’s squaring Pluto at zero degrees of Aquarius. Even though it’s out of sign, it’s still technically squaring Pluto. This aspect represents uncomfortable transformation or the need to level up and let go of a part of ourselves to be reborn. Although this may not be the most relevant detail, it’s still important to note that this is a fresh start in a specific area of life and very empowering.
However, I always recommend waiting until after eclipse season to manifest or work with this energy intentionally, as I explain in my “ultimate guide to Eclipses”.
Assuming they are not attempting to be comical or defiant, it is a widely shared consensus among astrologers that harnessing an eclipse’s energy is akin to igniting a match beneath a wildfire. While it may be possible, the potential destruction and entanglement that ensues may not align with your desires. Therefore, it is advisable to exercise patience and refrain from engaging with this energy until the appropriate time arises.
In sum, eclipses can be powerful catalysts for change, but be careful what you wish for. If you’re considering taking advantage of an eclipse, there may be complications and unexpected themes you weren’t prepared for. This is especially true if you were born under a solar eclipse, as the energy can be intense and insatiable.
While jumping into new projects or ambitions during eclipse season is tempting, it’s best to wait and see how the eclipse shows up in your life before making any big moves. Lunar eclipses usually occur two weeks after solar eclipses, so it’s recommended to wait until after May 5th before launching any major initiatives.
Don’t be too anxious about this, though – you don’t need to wait until May 6th to do anything. Just take some time to ground yourself and let the eclipse energy settle before diving into anything too significant. And if you’ve already experienced the effects of an eclipse, feel free to share your thoughts and experiences in the comments below.
This total solar eclipse in Aries will be felt most strongly by Aries, Libra, Cancer, and Capricorn, especially if you have any significant placements around 29 degrees (give or take 1-5 degrees) of these signs.
II. The Sun enters Taurus (Taurus season begins):
Shortly after the solar eclipse, also on April 20th, we have a change of pace as Taurus season kicks off. After the high-energy, impulsive Aries season, it’s time to settle down with the Bull.
The solar eclipse in Aries may have launched you into action and sparked your creativity, but now is the time to refine your ideas and make them shine. With Taurus’ practicality and love of luxury, you can turn your rough-cut visions into sparkling diamonds.
Beauty is not an option during Taurus season – it’s a necessity. This pragmatic sign believes that enjoying the finer things in life doesn’t have to come with an exorbitant price tag. Whether it’s a carefully crafted meal or a simple yet elegant piece of clothing, incorporating beauty into your plans is crucial.
Taurus is not just practical but sensual as well. The next four weeks are about more than just achieving results; they’re about ritualising the process. Pay attention to the little details and take your time. This is a time to savour every moment and enjoy the journey as much as the destination.
So, if you’re ready to buckle down and get to work, Taurus season is the perfect time to do so. You can create something truly remarkable with the Bull’s determination and eye for beauty. Just remember to take your time, enjoy the process, and pay attention to every detail. After all, the little things matter most during Taurus season.
III. Mercury becomes invisible and stations retrograde:
Hold on tight, stargazers, because the cosmos is throwing us another curveball this week!
Mercury, the planet of communication and technology, is going retrograde on April 21st, and it will be invisible until September 17th. This means that starting new projects related to commerce, trading, business, media, writing, and marketing will be a bit more challenging than usual.
The retrograde will be felt the most by those ruled by Mercury, including Gemini and Virgo Sun, Moon, or Ascendant signs. Taurus placements will feel it intensely, too, as Mercury is retrograding in this fixed earth sign.
You might feel less inclined to take action and more introspective during this time, so take it as a cue to reassess your goals and plans instead. But wait, there’s more! This retrograde will also be affecting the stubborn Taurus season. Expect conflicts, delays, and projects to come to a halt during the retrograde, which is set to last for three weeks (Mercury stations direct on May 15th).
However, don’t let frustration get the best of you. Instead, take advantage of this lull to reorganize your systems and catch up on any mundane tasks you’ve been putting off. While you’re at it, keep your indulgences in check, as this sign loves luxury, but you might regret overspending later.
Remember, just because Mercury is invisible doesn’t mean you have to be. Keep the lines of communication open and stay connected to those around you. Take a breath, slow down, and prepare to make the best of this retrograde ride. When Mercury reappears, you’ll be ready to hit the ground running!
