Dear NightFall Astrology readers,
Are you ready to take a fresh stand for your world views, philosophy in life, and the Universal Truth? Are you willing to give way to objectivity over subjectivity regarding your perception, communication, money and relationships, and more importantly, are you ready for a major review of these areas? These intertwined questions and topics will be coming up for us over the next three weeks, with Mercury’s imminent retrograde motion alongside the preview of Jupiter’s new cycle in Aries for the next five and a half months.
Here’s your weekly horoscope.
1. Mercury stations retrograde, and Jupiter enters Aries:
a) Mercury stations retrograde:
On May 10th, Mercury flips into its second retrograde of the year. Once again, the communication planet backs up through a pair of zodiac signs, bringing two distinct waves to its dramatic effects. Until May 22nd, we may feel a double dose of communication chaos as Mercury retreats through its home sign of Gemini. Expect friction in peer partnerships and do your best to avoid getting roped into taking sides. Triple-check your words before posting, sending or signing anything. Since Gemini rules transportation, try to hold off on purchasing anything with wheels until early June. Got an unfinished manuscript, podcast or workshop idea? Blow off the dust: This IS an excellent time to take a deeper look and make revisions. On May 22nd, the buzzy planet backs into reality-checker Taurus, throwing everyone’s sense of security into a bit of a tailspin. Budgets, schedules and relationship rules will demand keenness and clarity. Assume nothing and try to stay nimble—even while everyone around you is stubbornly digging in their heels! The usual exes and old friends popping up is on the table too!
Mercury will remain retrograde until June 3rd but don’t expect all your communications, short-distance travel plans, and neighbours/siblings/classmates issues to start running smoothly at the snap of a finger! Oh, no! There’s what we also call the “shadow period” of Mercury’s retrograde, meaning the degrees of Gemini and Taurus that the planet travels through while moving backwards (from Earth’s point of view). Here, Mercury will be retrograding between 5° of Gemini and 27° of Taurus. So, the lingering effects of its retrograde will officially be over by June 18th.
The last time Mercury retrograded into these signs was from May 7th until May 31st, 2009. Think back to what was happening in your life at that time; there may be similarities to this Mercury retrograde’s effects in your own birth chart.
This transit will be most challenging for Gemini, Virgo, Pisces, Sagittarius, Taurus, Scorpio, Aquarius, and Leo. Especially those of you who have your Sun, Moon or Ascendant anywhere between 27° of Taurus and 5° of Gemini (give or take 2-3 degrees, the maximum orb being of 5 degrees).
b) Jupiter enters Aries:
What’s new, innovative and never been tried before? No, that’s not a riddle. But it’s where our collective focus shifts on May 10th-11th (depending on your time zone) for the next five and a half months. As grandiose Jupiter revs its engines in Aries for the first time since 2010-11, it restarts its journey through the zodiac. This enterprising cycle is all about breaking barriers, developing new philosophies and candidly calling things as we see them. With everyone’s gambling instincts red hot, there’s a danger of leaping without looking. Leadership grabs and diva duels could leave jaws on the ground (and power structures in tatters). For best results, take the initiative in all areas of life, but play fair! It’s hard to be patient with process and protocol now, but avoid rushing to the finish line. After October 28th, Jupiter backs into Pisces again, then returns to Aries for another lap from December 20th, 2022, to May 16th, 2023. Until then, see if you can stop ruminating on the past or fixating on the future and just “be here now.”
Jupiter does well in Aries as it naturally rules its fellow fire sign: Sagittarius. In Aries, manufacturing and military-industrial complex can benefit and grow from this transit. Acts of heroism for humanity and on a personal level will be more prevalent.
Jupiter will be reaching 9° of Aries during these five and a half months. Let’s take a look at some significant world events the last time Jupiter transited these degrees from June until September 2010, and then again from January until March 2011:
- The first 24-hour flight by a solar-powered plane is completed by the Solar Impulse.
- WikiLeaks, an online publisher of anonymous, covert, and classified material leaked to the public over 90,000 internal reports about the United States-led involvement in the War in Afghanistan from 2004 to 2010.
- The World Health Organization declared the H1N1 influenza pandemic over, saying worldwide flu activity has returned to typical seasonal patterns.
- AIRES Flight 8250, A Boeing 737-700, crashed on landing at San Andrés, Colombia.
- A 7.1 magnitude earthquake rocked Christchurch, New Zealand, causing large amounts of damage but no direct fatalities. It was the first in a series of earthquakes between 2010 and 2012 that resulted in the deaths of 187 people and over $40 billion worth of damage. Seismologists noted that the earthquake sequence was highly unusual, and likely to never happen again anywhere else in the world.
- Israel became the 33rd member of the OECD.
- The 2011 Egyptian revolution began.
- Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak resigned after widespread protests calling for his departure, leaving control of Egypt in the hands of the military until a general election could be held.
- The First Libyan Civil War started.
- The civil uprising phase of the Syrian Civil War was triggered when 15 youths in Daraa were arrested for scrawling graffiti on their school wall denouncing the regime of President Bashar al-Assad.
As you can see, the last Jupiter transit in Aries led to the Arab spring and people protesting against oppression and dictatorship, which fundamentally changed our International Law and Relations. As I’m writing this horoscope, French President Macron has proposed a Treaty change of the EU (Jupiter rules International Law and Law in general), such as granting the European Parliament the right of legislative initiative, abolishing unanimity on everything from foreign policy to tax matters, creating EU-wide referenda and making health a shared EU competence. While allowing citizens to vote on transnational lists with an EU-wide constituency may not require a treaty change, it does require a unanimous vote by EU countries in the Council.
Personally, look back at any significant new beginnings that took place for you during that timeframe. Did you move countries? Did you start a higher education degree? Did you win a big lawsuit? Did you get involved in a significant humanitarian cause? Let me know in the comments down below!
Leo, Aries, Sagittarius, Gemini and Aquarius will get the most opportunities with Jupiter’s transit in Aries! Get ready for your flamboyance and passion to be rekindled!
2. Sun conjunct the North Node:
From May 11th until May 15th (exact on May 13th), the Sun will be in a fated meet up with the North Node in Taurus. Our collective consciousness will glimpse the future of our resources, values, and the Earth in general.
This is one of the most vital times for us this year. Each one of us can really shine and create massive energy for ourselves right now. We can feel in the spotlight and reach an increased sense of personal power regarding our self-esteem and finances. We can help lead the way into putting value into ourselves and into Earth. There’s the opportunity for new creativity, joy, and well-being for us. It’s as if we can have a whole new relationship with life itself. Something in these arenas wants to dramatically change our lives collectively and individually. We may have to lose something to win at a greater rate. Ultimately, we’re being asked to stand in our power as the transformers (this conjunction is also opposite the South Node in Scorpio), stabilisers, and futuristic game-changers.
This is a very powerful time for Taurus, Leo, Aquarius, and Scorpio, but they should also know that Uranus is playing with them, and they don’t know what’s coming. So be ready for curveballs.
3. Sun square Saturn and Sun sextile Neptune:
a) Sun square Saturn:
From May 13th until May 17th (exact on May 15th), the Sun in Taurus will square (challenging aspect) Saturn in Aquarius. On the positive side, this aspect promotes perseverance and self-discipline. It also teaches self-reliance. It gives the ability and stamina to work hard under pressure and correct business mistakes.
On the negative side, it can give a Lack of confidence and optimism, blockages, delays, depleted energy levels, sadness/depression, lack of support from others, criticism or increased demands at work or from men or authority figures. This isn’t a good time for any social activities.
This square will be most challenging for Aquarius, Leo, Scorpio, and Taurus.
b) Sun sextile Neptune:
During the same few days, we’ll also have a harmonious/supportive aspect (a sextile) between the Sun in Taurus and Neptune in Pisces, which lessens the harshness of the abovementioned square.
This sextile stimulates imagination and inspiration. It increases empathy and compassion. This is an excellent time for charity work and volunteering. It’s also favourable for any creative, artistic, or spiritual pursuits. We’ll have the opportunity to deepen our spiritual practices. We can also receive help and support from men or bosses/authority figures.
This transit will be most beneficial for Pisces, Scorpio, Cancer, Taurus, and Capricorn.

Evolve thyself and lose all hate
So a heaven you may create”.
