Dear NightFall Astrology readers,
What a roller-coaster year it has been, right? We’ve all, in our own way, been deep into the rabbit hole of the “cause and effect” principle for the last 18.5 months more than ever, with the North Node transiting Gemini and the South Node making its way through Sagittarius. The keyword for all of us worldwide has been “fact-checking”, a typically Gemini term.
This week, we’ll be feeling a powerful sense of culmination and ending regarding any answers we’ve been seeking since the last New Moon SOLAR Eclipse in Gemini that took place on June 10th, 2021 or even before that. We’ll be closing one long chapter of our lives for good and beginning a new one. It’s been quite a journey for sure, but we’ve been all brave through it all. With Mercury, the ruler of Gemini, entering Capricorn this week, no sweet-talking would do the trick for us as we’ll be very grounded in our minds and communications. Be ready for things to get serious.
Mars’s entering fiery Sagittarius will be pushing our passion and impulsivity, but Mercury and Venus, both in Capricorn, will make us see things from a pragmatic lens, especially with the planet of relationships and money slowing down before going retrograde at the end of the week.
Here’s your weekly horoscope.
- On December 13th, Mars enters Sagittarius and Mercury ingresses Capricorn. Until January 24th 2022, our drive, impatience and passion will become lit. We’ll all start feeling more energised, and our actions will be oriented towards more socialising, long-distance travel, exploring and widening our cultural horizons.
With the impulsive red planet pulsing in the sign of the global traveller, you could be double-tapping “Reserve My Flight” before you’ve had a chance to think through every logistical detail. So check things like proof of vaccination and quarantine rules before expecting to board a plane, like, tomorrow. Entrepreneurs will feel a surge of motivation, and developments could happen at a rapid clip, even before the holidays! Careful not to blow through all that seed money on startup costs. With Mars playing Powerball in capricious Sagittarius, it’s tough to tell the difference between a calculated risk and a straight-up gamble.
Circumstances outside of your control will push us to double-check all the information and details anyways, as, until Wednesday, Mars will be conjunct the South Node in Sagittarius and also in a T-square with the North Node in Gemini and Jupiter in Aquarius. This is a highly tense and rebellious astrological configuration that asks us to take all the information into account before jumping on any wild and unconventional ideas we may be getting. It may also trigger worldwide protests.
Thankfully, our mind will halt our impulsivity, with Mercury starting its 3-week transit in serious and long-term focused Capricorn. The key to success is to expect mistakes and learn from them instead of trying to nail it on the first try. One crucial lesson that Capricorn, the zodiac’s CEO, teaches us is this: ‘Tis better to delegate than to do it all by yourself. As social Mercury buzzes through this sign, people will be the most valuable “resource” of all. Start mapping out the requirements for your dream team (or dream date!).
Mars in Sagittarius will energise Leo, Sagittarius, Aries, Libra, and Aquarius the most. Gemini, Virgo and Pisces should do their best to control their impulsivity and aggressiveness, especially in their relationships.
Mercury in Capricorn will be most beneficial for Capricorn, Virgo, Taurus, Scorpio, and Pisces. Aries, Cancer and Libra should be mindful of their words and contract negotiations.
- On December 18th-19th (depending on your time zone), we’ll be having a clarity-bringing Full Moon in 28° of Gemini (the last one for 2021!). For those of us who live in Europe, it’ll be happening on December 19th at 5:35 AM (CET). Think back on what you have started and/or shifted around June 10th of this year around communication, immediate environment and neighbours, siblings, short-distance travel, learning, your mindset and perception in general. Whatever it was, it must have been pretty life-changing and intense as that New Moon was also a SOLAR eclipse in Gemini!
And now, the culmination of that life-changing situation or information is being illuminated by the Full Moon. The feelings and emotions of things coming to an end will be particularly prominent as this Full Moon is happening in a critical degree, indicating that whatever information or conversations we’ve had to process emotionally over the past 6 months, they’re really coming to an end. This Grand Finale energy is even more intensified with the Nodes also being in the anaretic/critical degree of Sagittarius and Gemini and getting ready to switch to Taurus and Scorpio in January. So, there’s an immense sense of all of us having learnt the lessons we needed to learn about sticking to the facts and not getting lost in big ideas that much over the last 18.5 months.
The Full Moon will be making what we call “a synthetic triangle” in astrology. Contrary to the Grand Trine or the Bissextile, which are made by only positive aspects (trines and sextiles), here, we have the opposition (tense aspect) between the Sun and the Moon, forming the Full Moon, a sextile between the Sun and Jupiter, and a trine between the Moon and Jupiter. So, as you might have guessed already, the energy of this configuration is mixed, meaning that it’s primarily auspicious/positive (brings blessings and opportunities), but at the same time, requires self-awareness and balance. Since Jupiter, the planet of faith and optimism, will be involved in this synthetic triangle, the test here will be to check how much faith do we have in ourselves: is too much or too little? Hence the balancing act required by the opposition I mentioned earlier.
Stemming from this, any opportunities or blessings that might arise in our lives during this Full Moon will have a risk component to them pushing towards taking a leap of faith. Remember, this Full Moon is all about endings and new beginnings as it’s happening in an anaretic degree (the last 3 degrees of a sign), and numerologically, 28° reduce to a 10 and then to a 1, which is linked to Aries and Leo who initiate courageously new things despite some risks.
The risk factor will be at the forefront even more with Saturn and Uranus getting closer to their 3rd exact square (challenging aspect) this year, underlining the battle between the old and the new. We’ve seen over the past couple of weeks another rise of restrictions to our freedoms (Saturn) alongside harsh fluctuations (Uranus) in the economy (rising inflation) and stock markets (Bitcoin’s brutal drop, for example).
The Full Moon’s dispositing planet, Mercury, will also be trining (harmonious aspect) Uranus in Taurus, the planet of innovation and revolution, so flashes of inspiration that could lead to tangible long-term results are totally possible here.
Finally, this Full Moon will be in conjunction with the Fixed Star “Betelgeuse”. Betelgeuse is labelled alpha Orion even though it is the second brightest star in Orion star behind Rigel. Constellation Orion is drawn as a hunting man, and Betelgeuse sits on his right shoulder. Betelgeuse is one of the largest stars known, and is rapidly shrinking in size at an increasing rate. Betelgeuse is 15% smaller than it was fifteen years ago.
This has led to predictions that Betelgeuse will explode into a supernova in the next few years. Astronomers say it will turn into a supernova at some stage but cannot say when, but when it does it will be as bright as a full Moon.
Betelgeuse gives martial honour, preferment and wealth. It is of the nature of Mars and Mercury (exaggerative, argumentative, unreliable, unscrupulous, given to invective, mechanical ability, very quick mind, great talker). War and carnage are presaged by Betelgeuse. The star is indicative of great fortune, martial honours and other kingly attributes. Betelgeuse is on the Right Shoulder of Orion, and corresponds to the meaning of Mars with a touch of Mercury. The effects of these properties are more propitious than those of Bellatrix, especially if Jupiter is also connected to it, which is the case with this Full Moon.
Betelgeuse is a mighty star on the main muscle of Orion that wields his sword. It is of Mars-Mercury classification and never fails to reveal immense strength in a horoscope. How that serves or fates the person in question depends on how he uses his strength. Nothing happens by halves with this great star.
With the Full Moon being in conjunction with this star, it can give an active mind, strong will, turbulence, rebellion under restraint, military success but suffering through quarrels with superiors, the likelihood of great power, honour and wealth. So, again, taking a risk for one’s innovative ideas is highlighted here.
This Full Moon will be felt most intensely by Sagittarius, Virgo, Gemini, and Pisces. Especially those of you who have your Sun, Moon, Ascendant, Descendant, Midheaven, I.C. or any other important planet or point in your chart around 28° of these signs (give or take 2-3 degrees).
- Also, on December 19th, Venus stations retrograde in Capricorn. For the next 6 weeks, our material and relationship values will be under serious review. As usual, starting or rather officialising any Venus-ruled matters such as getting married, getting involved in a committed relationship, buying luxury items, launching a fashion, beauty, counselling or any artistic business isn’t recommended.
Goal-obsessed Capricorn reminds us to keep our standards high, but our expectations grounded in reality. The road to romantic bliss can be a winding one, and just when you think you’ve arrived, you discover another path to summit. Retrograde Venus offers a chance to plunge into a deep examination of how you “do” relationships. Do you avoid attachments or get anxious and clingy when you feel unsure? Maybe you’re a well-balanced soul who could afford to be a bit more passionate. Are you addicted to the thrill of “new relationship energy” only to bolt when things get too real and intimate? How in touch with your erotic desires and power are you, actually? Questions like these weigh on the collective conscience as Venus’ retrograde pushes us to do all those “re” activities like reviewing, revisiting, reassessing and reconnecting. And no, it’s not gonna be a cakewalk. (Real love seldom is.) But those who are willing to do the work of self-examination and course correction might be rewarded with a fulfilling new chapter in love and business in 2022.
For those of you who like going down memory lane, the last time Venus retrograded in Capricorn was from December 21st 2013, until January 1st 2014. So, similar situations to those you encountered back then may arise or even be brought back for a reevaluation or definitive closure. Venus was also retrograde in Gemini last year from May 28th 2020, until June 25th 2020. With the Full Moon Gemini and the North Node being in the same sign during most of this year’s Venus’s retrograde, unresolved situations from last year could also make an appearance. Whatever the case might be, you can count on it being resolved with the upcoming 2 more conjunctions between Venus and detective Pluto.
This Venus retrograde will be most impactful for Capricorn, Cancer, Aries, and Libra. Taurus, Scorpio, Pisces and Virgo may be able to resurrect love, financial and career situations and turn them around for their own benefit.

Someday we’ll know
