Firestarters & Standoff Artists: Mercury Sharpens, Mars Roars Back, & Venus Changes the Script! Collective Horoscope (April 14th-20th)

16 April 2025

Dear NightFall Astrology readers,

Are you getting into the magical Christmas vibes? Is it snowing already in your part of the world? We’ve had a wonderfully white week here in Strasbourg (France), and it looks like the White Christmas we’ve been dreaming about since 2010 is around the corner again!

Did I say 2010? Oh yes, that rings some Astro bells! Why? That’s when Jupiter dipped into Aries before moving back into Pisces, just like this year! And THIS WEEK, Jupiter’s finally leaving Pisces: watch out for the spiritual and artistic gifts it’ll leave you before it enters Aries this Tuesday, December 20th! That’s the way with Jupiter before it leaves a sign, “he” gets into the Santa Claus vibe…

Speaking of gifts, have you thought about what kind of “big goal” you’d like to achieve in 2023? Toss away your regular calendars, and don’t wait for December 31st or January 1st to write down your New Year’s resolutions (I prefer to call them ‘goals’)! This Friday’s, December 23rd, New Moon in Capricorn (I’d personally wait until the Moon moves into the next sign – Aquarius – on Christmas Day to set my intentions) is the perfect time for focusing on what you’d like to achieve in your career or business over the next 6 months (your project will culminate around the Full Moon in Capricorn on July 3rd, 2023).

Pro tip: Avoid manifesting, starting anything new, or signing any contracts between December 29th and January 12th, as both Mercury (in Capricorn) and Mars (in Gemini) will be retrograde. This isn’t bad, scary, or anything to be nervous about. It simply shows energy being slow and more difficult to move forward with. This timeframe is better suited to looking inward or revising things that we’ve already done.

With this end-of-the-year disclaimer (and messing up your Gregorian calendar schedules) out of the way, let’s dive into this week’s horoscope.

1. Jupiter re-enters Aries:

Just as you’re kicking back by the fireplace, boom! Stalled missions pick up momentum—and at warp speed, to boot! This Tuesday, December 20th, larger-than-life Jupiter resets its compass, surging into trailblazing Aries for its second of two adventurous passes in 2022-23. Suddenly, you’re planning a ceremonial New Year’s getaway on the beach when, a week ago, you swore you’d keep it chill and lay low at home. Ambitious projects and passionate attractions heat up, diverting attention from stocking-stuffing duties. When inspiration strikes, record the gems in an audio note before you lose them. People making demands on your time and energy? Not a favourite thing, while Jupiter is in self-focused, spontaneous Aries. Don’t shirk responsibilities, though! No, you don’t have to keep every promise you made while Jupiter paddled through sacrificial Pisces since October 28th. But if you’re going to break your word, give people time to devise a Plan B. Make a graceful exit instead of burning bridges.

Jupiter in Aries is like a hot day in Spring after a frozen winter or a martial artist who just swallowed amphetamine. During the transit of Jupiter in Aries, all that you imagined possible while Jupiter was in Pisces can be brought into action. This position of Aries favours the brave, the initiators, the leaders; the Moses, Muhammad, and Christ among us; those willing to pioneer and boldly go where no one has gone before.

Jupiter in Aries can help you define and assert your identity and discover who you are and what you want. It brings energy to projects and a great deal of charm, charisma, and enthusiasm. Jupiter can help you connect to a new sport or physical activity, undertake an adventure, or open new horizons for you. The darker side of this transit might invoke aggression, violence, self-centeredness, overconfidence, egoism, and tyranny.

And since we like going down memory lane on this blog, think back to February – June 2011 (the last time when Jupiter was FULLY in Aries)! What significant new beginnings took place in your life?

This transit will be most supportive of Aries, Leo, Sagittarius, Gemini, and Aquarius.

2. Sun enters Capricorn (Happy Solstice!):

It’s beginning to feel a lot like solstice! The Sun enters Capricorn this Wednesday, December 21st, marking the shortest day of the year for those living in the northern hemisphere.

This day is called the Gateway of the Gods, the birthday of the gods and goddesses of light: Apollo, Artemis, Osiris, Horus, Attis, and Mithras, to name a few. This is the day that you are most connected to your higher self and guardian angel.

Under the cover of darkness, turn inwards and scan the landscape of your subconscious mind. Carve out space to meditate, reflect and find gratitude for the high points of your 2022. Then, clarify what you’d like to leave behind as you enter 2023—and what evolution you’re most proud to bring with you into the New Year. Ask, and you shall be answered.

The winter solstice always coincides with the Sun’s move into grounding, elegant Capricorn (Happy Birthday to all my Capricorns out there!). And since the celestial Sea Goat is the governor of goal setting, how perfect is it that we get to make our resolutions under these solar flares every year? Get a running list going in your Notes app, for now, so you can enjoy the holidays pressure-free. And with Mercury turning retrograde from December 29th to January 18th, you’d be wise to get the momentum going BEFORE the New Year while thoughts are still clear. The first new moon of 2023 is on January 21st, so you’re not going to lose your momentum (or your “high pro glow”) if you wait until then to set your intentions in stone.

Capricorn season will be most favourable for Capricorn, Taurus, Virgo, Scorpio, and Pisces.

3. New Super Moon in Capricorn:

Ready to wrap up the year with a giant velvet bow? Friday’s New Moon in Capricorn, the second one in 2022 and a potent supermoon, brings a burst of speed to help you crush those end-of-year goals. It’ll be happening at exactly 11:17 AM (CET) in 1°33′ of Capricorn. New Moons are always about new beginnings, and this one’s highlighting Capricornian topics: career, business, legacy, governments and hierarchies, success, making it to the top, and long-term goals.

In contrast to the full moon earlier this month which was very aggressive, this New Moon is a little bit of a Christmas miracle! It does have very practical, very earthly Capricorn energy. It’s a very useful New Moon, so I encourage you to use it.

This New Moon is taking place in the first decan of Capricorn, represented by the “two of pentacles” Tarot card, also known as the “Lord of Change” (a pretty self-explanatory title). This part of Capricorn is ruled by Jupiter, the planet of wealth and growth, even though Capricorn itself is an overall Saturn-ruled sign, giving it its seriousness, structure, and intensity. This isn’t a lovey-dovey, abstract, or artistic New Beginning, even if it is happening in a romantic or relationship part of your chart. It will be very pragmatic and realistic.

It’s not nebulous; it is clear, concise and precise, and it might involve financial, monetary, or business-related topics regardless of where it is happening in your chart. Because it’s not just the Sun and Moon in Capricorn, we have a whole lot going on there: we have the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, and Pluto altogether (making this a stellium) highlighting Capricorn energy.

There’s a sobering desire to build a structure that will last very clearly here. This doesn’t have to be a direct business model. It doesn’t mean that you’re going public with your company or launching something, but it does mean it won’t be whimsical. It signals the need for an action plan to build something structurally cohesive in the Capricorn area of your life (aka house in your natal chart).

Mercury is conjunct Venus at the time of this New Moon. Mercury is communication and mental processes. Venus is beautifying or harmonising. So, Mercury and Venus together are not that rare; it happens in the charts of a fair amount of people because Mercury and Venus can never be too far away from each other. And when they’re very close in the same sign, it hits that beautiful communication and being eloquent and articulate.

Mercury and Venus together in Capricorn adds a beautifying element even to the very sober, very strict Capricorn quality; it looks like a smooth marketing plan, even though Capricorn is dry. Mercury and Venus together here is approachable and well-spoken, and it is more harmonising.

Mercury is also conjunct Pluto, which adds intensity and a lot of focus. It’s severe, but that’s not bad; it’s not low-key; there’s a literal plan. There’s an intense way of speaking about this that has follow-through and a commitment.

Jupiter is now in 0° of Aries, which means that the Moon and the Sun at one degree of Capricorn are tightly square. Anytime we have a square (challenging aspect) from Jupiter in the earlier zodiacal order (here, Aries comes before Capricorn, so it’s Jupiter that’s throwing the square aspect), it is an empowering aspect of benevolence or gratitude and expanding opportunity. And with Aries referring to the self and independence, it looks like you’re building a structure, but you’re doing this to support yourself. This Aries-like nature of this New Moon (bold initiation) is enhanced by the fact that it’s happening at the first degree, ruled by Aries according to Nicola Stojanovic’s degree theory.

There is this very much like self-employed or entrepreneurial energy here, even if that’s definitely not needed to be manifested for you. The downside is that Mars is still retrograde in Gemini, which is not the best for acting very clearly or debating others very constructively. Mars is very slow and will be hitting a very sensitive fixed star axis (Aldebaran & Antares) next week and for the rest of January (I’ll be covering this aspect in next week’s horoscope).

Uranus is on the North Node as well, which again is not super relevant only to this New Moon, but Uranus is chaos; the North Node amplifies that, and it is very stark for volatility in the background for the end of this year. I don’t really like this; it is fairly disruptive, but I don’t see it as relevant for this New Moon in particular, which I do really like. So, if there’s anything materialistic that you want to start or manifest, such as a brand deal or getting hired, starting a business, making money in this way, or just aesthetically investing in something. In that case, this is the time to do it, and I highly recommend that you take advantage of it.

On the same day, asteroid Chiron (the wounded healer) will be stationing Direct in Aries, further highlighting that it’s time to heal (our egos) and move on to the new.

Capricorn, Aries, Cancer, and Libra will feel this New Moon most intensely. Especially those of you who have your Sun, Moon, Ascendant, Descendant, Midheaven, I.C. or any other important planet or point in your chart around the 1st degree of these signs (give or take 2-3 degrees).

4. Mercury becomes invisible:

Fearing the usual Christmas family drama? Well, this year, I suggest you take the grounded, level-headed, and detached approach (especially with all that Capricorn energy and the transiting Moon in Aquarius (another Saturn-ruled sign)), as messenger Mercury (the planet ruling our communication) becomes invisible on Christmas Day (December 25th), as it’s getting ready to turn retrograde!

When Mercury becomes invisible, it is harder to start to new projects related to commerce, trading, business, media, communication, writing, and marketing. So you’ll have to be patient with yourself and others!

People ruled by Mercury (Gemini or Virgo, Sun, Moon or Ascendant) will feel less initiative and more introspective during the invisibility phase.

Have a blessed Christmas!
